Blepharitis?: Inflammation of inner lining of eyelids can cause irritation of the eyeball, leading to redness. It can also cause the eyelashes to be redirected toward the eye so that they enter the field of vision. Your symptoms are suggestive of blepharitis. You should ask about this. Make sure you see an ophthalmologist (someone who treats eye disease), not just an optometrist (who just prescribes lenses). ...Read more

Multiple causes: Sudden soreness and swelling of the eye or eyelids can have multiple causes. Most common would be a chalazion or a hordeolum (stye). Other infectious and inflammatory causes are possible, including conjunctivitis, iritis, sinusitis, etc. You can try a warm compress (clean washcloth rinsed with very warm tap water) for a day or two, but see an eye md promptly if the symptoms are not resolved soon. ...Read more

Stye: At your age, this is probably a stye. This is a blocked gland in the substance of the lid which will produce a red swelling on the inside of the lid. If advanced it may swell the whole lid. To treat, use very warm washcloths socked from your water tap (not too hot). for about 5 minutes at a time, 5 times per day for several days . this will usually get rid of it. ...Read more

Most likely a stye: Most likely it's a chalazion or a stye. They should resolve with warm compresses. If they don't it needs to be drained and at the same time I would. Biopsy it to make sure it's not a malignancy. ...Read more
