No BUT....: By all means gear up for the August 2015 Ice Bucket Challenge that the ALS Foundation of America is going to hold again. But in your case tongue twitches with normal neurological exams and no abnormal EMG's cannot be ALS...not here...not in France...and not even on PLANET ALS....if such a planet existed. ...Read more

Hyperventilation: These are classical symptoms of hyperventilation (overbreathing). When you breathe too fast and too deep, you wash out carbon dioxide from your blood and cause alkalosis. Entirely normal: Infants have two types of sleep: quiet sleep when they barely move and are very difficult to arouse, and active sleep when they are easier to arouse and move around a great deal. Twitching and muscle jerks, strange breathing, talking and lots of motor movements can occur during this normal phase of active sleep. Response: None of what you mention causes me to think of MS, and not clear to me why your fear this diagnosis. Limb twitching can be due to numerous issues, and would be well to have this evaluated by a neurologist. But based on your description, I seriously doubt MS is cause. ...Read more

See a neurologist: Causes can vary from electrolyte imbalances to muscle disorders/myopathies to spinal disorders and even seizures. A neurologist can get a good history of the problem and order the right tests for you. ...Read more
