Normal range T3/T4 but extremely low TSH (high sensitivity). Slightly low before pregnancy and now extremely low 11 weeks. Endocrine Dr not concerned?

Normal range T3/T4 but extremely low TSH (high sensitivity). Slightly low before pregnancy and now extremely low 11 weeks. Endocrine Dr not concerned?

Low TSH: Agree not to worry, your hormone levels are fine and the TSH being slightly is because you are pregnant, just like other things that change with pregnancy.
Don't worry. ...Read more

What can cause a false high tsh?

What can cause a false high tsh?

Not much: Any lab can have a temporary problems doing any test accurately. That is why an abnormal level should always be repeated to verify it. There are temporary causes for high TSH (resolving subacute thyroiditis), so that a 2nd TSH level done a few weeks after an abnormal one, could be normal. Subclinical hypothyroidism will have a high TSH with other thyroid levels normal, no symptoms. ...Read more

What is high tsh, 3rd generation?

What is high tsh, 3rd generation?

Same as others: The 3d generation TSH assays are best at the lowest ranges - the upper range is debatable as tsh, unlike most products in the blood is not distributed in populations in a bell curve.
The upper limits of the "normal" range of 4 to 5 in assays of all generations is probably wrong. ...Read more

What is considered a high TSH level?

Above 4.5: In most labs, a value above 4.5 is high. However, symptoms related to low thyroid correlate much better with free T4 levels, rather than tsh. There are many people with elevated tsh, normal free t4, who feel perfectly normal (subclinical hypothyroidism). Persistently high TSH levels is indicative of a failing thyroid. ...Read more

What is a dangerously high TSH level?

What is a dangerously high TSH level?

Hypothyroidism: The actual thyroid hormone is T4 and t3 (liothyronine). When they are low, TSH elevates, but how high is somewhat variable, and "high tsh" per se is not dangerous. A low t4/t3 (liothyronine) can be dangerous; TSH is a good marker of thyroid function, but often it is necessary to measure ft4 or t3 (liothyronine). A mild elevation of TSH (eg. 4-10) is often without any symptoms and a normal ft4. ...Read more

My last blood results showed a high TSH levels but t3andt4 in normal range. Should I see someone regarding hypotyhroidism?

Yes: An elevated TSH indicates that your pituitary gland feels that your thyroid level is somewhat low. The fact that the T4 and T3 (liothyronine) are normal means that the problem is still mild. If you have symptoms of an underactive thyroid, treatment with thyroid hormone is indicated. If you have no symptoms, and the TSH is only mildly high, one can repeat the level in a few months and see if it has changed. ...Read more

Does high TSH indicate cancer?

Does high TSH indicate cancer?

No!: Tsh stands for "thyroid stimulating hormone". It does exactly what it says; stimulates your thyroid to produce hormones! If your thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone, your TSH will go up. So a high TSH simply means you have an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). There are many conditions that cause this, and they are easily treatable. See your health provider! ...Read more

I have a high TSH but normal T4 levels, what does this mean?

I have a high TSH but normal T4 levels, what does this mean?

Hypothyroidism: The TSH test is10 times more sensitive for the diagnosis of hypothyroidism that the t4. The TSH is reported on a log scale so that small changes in the TSH value are caused by relatively big changes in the blood level. This is a reflection of the pituitary being extremely sensitive to change in the T3 (liothyronine) level if you have symptoms it would be wise to seek treatment. ...Read more

Rsults of my blood test indicate low LH and high TSH (3rd generation). What does this indicate?

Hypothyroid: A high TSH is consistent with primary hypothyroidism. You should have a free T4 level done. Lh is unrelated to thyroid. A low level could be related to medications, such as an oral contraceptive or other estrogen usage (or testosterone in a male). If your periods are regular, it is likely a lab error. ...Read more
