Many: Allergic reaction to cosmetics and/or incompletely dried nail polish comes to mind. As long as you are exposed to them, the problem will not go away. Good question.: There is no definitive answer to this question since cortisone does reduce one's immune response to the infection. On the other hand, if you need to scratch the wound because of the itching, it will also cause problems as well. I think you should check with your doctor to discuss this issue. Allergy or systemic: Is there an associated rash? Could be allergy to something - soap, detergent, food? You should try to ID the source and eliminate of course. Stress can also cause a general itchiness. Try an antihistamine or Claritin (loratadine) to help calm it down and see your MD. Just a thought: You may be "prolonging" an irritative rash by RUBBING a common area is the area between the thighs. Try avoiding any pressure from tight clothing and apply some MOISTURIZING CREAM on your thighs/legs!
