Maybe SLE maybe not.: Diagnosis of rheumatologic disease is generally based on symptoms with support from lab. Sounds like you have a rheumatologic disease and are being treated with a rheumatologic agent perhaps by a rheumatologist. They can explain your particular situation better, but suffice it to say tests are not always right and a single test does not generally make or break a diagnosis. ...Read more

I have a cortisol level of 0.8. Can that cause weight gain, extreme fatigue, joint pain. Low bp, heart palpitations? What should I do?

I have a cortisol level of 0.8. Can that cause weight gain, extreme fatigue, joint pain. Low bp, heart palpitations? What should I do?

Complicated: Normal 8 am cortisol is 8-23 micrograms per deciliter. Since you don't use units, it's not clear if you're normal or not. Moreover, even if it's low as I think you're hinting, your Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) may have suppressed it. A cortrosyn stimulation test is needed. Finally, low cortisol could cause fatigue and low BP, but not the other symptoms. Clearly, you need to stay under your doctor's care! ...Read more

I've had a sore throat for 8 days followed by dry tickly persistent cough, earache. Joint pain tiredness hot sweats followed by feeling cold and shive?

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). I am having heart palpitations along with dizziness, nausea, shaks, and i also had my period seven days ago and now I am on it again along with joint pain all over my body with weakness and tiredness what is going on I am only 30

Hello. : Hello. I don't know if those symptoms just came on. The combination of palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, nausea and dizziness is worrisome. I realize that you are a young woman. These are some of the symptoms of a mycocardial infarction (heart attack). Chest pain, tightness, squeezing or fullness is the most common presentation. However the pain can also present in the upper back, the upper middle abdomen, jaw, head, teeth or in the arms (left more than right). One could have nausea, vomiting or it could feel like indigestion or heartburn. Feeling short of breath, sweating and just feeling out of sorts can also occur. About a fourth of people have no significant symptoms during a heart attack. Although your symptoms could be caused by a number of things and you are young, i none the less recommend that you call 911. It is important to determine if you are having a cardiac event. ...Read more

I am itchy all over and have spots of pain all over that only last a few seconds with extreme fatigue and joint pain, what could be wrong?

Difficult to say: Joint pain, esp. When there are several joints involved, causes rage from serious auto-immune disease to a side effect of a self limited viral infection. If only one joint is involved, there may be an infection in the joint. Many details of the history, and exam findings are important. Please get a formal evaluation by your regular doctor, or go to a rheumatologist. ...Read more

I have been having extreme fatigue, dry skin and muscle and joint pain. I had some labs done and my calcium was 10.6, TSH 8.54 FT$ .99, and PTH was 19?

Tests Normal?: 53 F Iowa gives lab tests but no normal values for the lab tests. Never send lab tests to us without sending normal values from the lab that did them. This is because most analyes do not have universal reference standard and thus different labs may have different normal values and ranges. Also if we know why labs were being done it helps interpret test results. So send medical Hx as well. ...Read more
