Third Nipple (Definition)

Third (supernumerary) nipples are fairly common, and are found in men and women. They are generally not related to other medical conditions. The extra nipples usually occur below the normal nipples and tend to be small and not well formed. Can nipple piercings affect breast feeding?

Can nipple piercings affect breast feeding?

Possibly: If the piercing hits into the ducts, milk flow could be affected. Production should not be a problem, but you may be more prone to mastitis and/or have some minor problems with let down of the milk. That being said, I have known many women to breast feed without any problems who had history of nipple piercing, so I wouldn't rule it out just based on that. ...Read more

Why is my nipple inverted after breast reduction?

Why is my nipple inverted after breast reduction?

Depends: If the nipple was inverted before the procedure then breast reduction alone will not correct that. If it wasn't beforehand, there may be some traction/tension on the deeper tissues that are pulling the nipple into the breast mound. If its early after surgery, swelling of the surrounding tissue can give the appearance of inversion. Go back and talk to your surgeon and let him/her evaluate you. ...Read more

Age 24. Gave birth a week ago. Dark looking breasts during pregnancy. Flat nipple. Blood from both breasts in colostrum. Boil beside breast. Advice?

Nipple problems: If someone is breastfeeding and has cracked nipples there may be some blood. Most women don't have to deal with that. Also need to have someone see if it is a boil - as in an infection - or if it is a blister from nursing. If someone is having problems breastfeeding it would be a good idea to talk to a lactation consultant. Also should have breasts checked by MD to see if infected or not. ...Read more

Does a breast augmentation change your nipple sensation?

Does a breast augmentation change your nipple sensation?

Yes, temporarily: Often, nipple sensitivity is increased initially. This can be way too much, at first. Within few weeks, this subsides toward normal. Unfortunately, breast augmentation can also cause permanent loss of nipple sensation on one or both sides, due to injury to the nerves in the breast. This is very rare, but, if it happens to you, it is of little conciliation that it happens very infrequently! ...Read more
