Exposed To Whooping Cough 2 Weeks Ago
See your DR: If your 2 month old has been directly exposed to a confirmed case of pertussis, or whooping cough, you need to see your doctor. At your baby's age, he has not yet completed his primary pertussis vaccination series, so he is susceptible to contracting this disease. Known contacts, including your baby, will need to be treated for exposure to the disease. ...Read more
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. 5 month old chest cough due to virus, took 3 days bretaped oral steroid friday. Still coughing temp 37.7. How long can cough last? Vaccines due... Ok?
Vacicnes-no: Coughing can last 7-10 days from a virus. Steroids indicate there was probably wheezing as well. If the cough is the same as when steroids started then be seen again to be sure the wheezing is gone. I prefer not to vaccinate until the illness is resolved. I do not llke to overtax the immune system. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Age 23. Had bronchitis 2 weeks ago, but lingering mucus. Minimal sputum occurs when dehydrated. Recommendations?
Stay hydrated: Acute bronchitis is almost entirely viral in origin. It takes time for full healing of the damaged cells in the lining of the bronchi and trachea to recover entirely. They produce secretions that are then brushed upwards by millions of tiny flagellae and coughed out. This needs fluid in the system for full recovery. You will get better. But if you are smoking - stop. ...Read more

See pediatrician: It is not unusual for a cough to linger after a viral upper respiratory infection. That's why it is best to call and check with your pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Had bad cold virus 3 weeks ago. Cold gone , but can't get rid of nagging cough. Was productive, now dry. Been almost 3 weeks. No fever, Bronchitis?
Unlikely but possibl: There is no vaccine that is 100% guarantee you will never get the disease effective. Also, if your body has certain types of immune deficiencies, some vaccines might "not take" for you and you won't build up an immunity for that disease. So while the technical answer to your question is yes, it is very rare to get disease after immunization. However, protection may wear off and you need boosters! ...Read more
