Expired Albuterol Solution
No problem: but may be no desired effect,Get a more detailed answer ›
Ventolin is the trade name for the chemical / drug albuterol. This drug is a medicine to be inhaled to open the airways and it acts quickly, so it is called a "short-acting bronchodilator". The medicine comes in both a hand-held inhaler and as a liquid to be used with a nebulizer machine . It also comes in a liquid form to take by mouth, but this should not be used ...Read more
Expired Medication: Yes. I often tell my patients that as long as the product was not exposed to the elements or direct sunlight that simple expiration dates are fine to ignore. ...Read more
Safe to use expired (mar 2013) albuterol sulfate inhalation solution (0.63mg/3ml)? Getting over viral infection and thinking about using my nebulizer.
Possibly: The expiration date reflects more the assured strenght of the medication than any toxic change in its action. Short term use until you resupply is probably fine. ...Read more
No: All medications have expiration dates beyond which there is no guarantee that the medication will be effective. ...Read more
I'm using 2 rotacaps for asthma (salbutamol sulphate& ipratropium bromide, fluticasino propionate& formaterol fumarate). Is the long term use safe?
Yes and no: The last drug you mentioned formaterol is a long acting beta agonist (laba). In the us, labas alone are used in treating copd. When used in asthma and to reduce their potential serious side effects, they must be combined with a steroid like fluticasone. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I use albuterol sulfate ProAir rescue inhalers for my asthma. Can I use salamol cfc free inhalers in replacement of this? (it's more affordable)

Probably OK: Drug expiration dates reflect the time of proved safety and effectiveness. But in almost all cases, the drug remains potent and safe for much longer (often many years), if it hasn't been exposed to high heat for long periods (like a car's glove compartment in summer). It's always safest to get a refill, but most likely the expired fluticasone will work just fine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Which inhaler is a rescue inhaler, xopenex (levalbuterol) hfa or dulera? Already used xopenex (levalbuterol) hfa and did not get full relief
NO: While ipratropium is generally used for copd, and usually in combination with albuterol, albuterol is generally used in asthma. So no harm, but may not achieve the goal of therapy when used in itself in either condition. Further since it is anticholinergic, excess usage will cause its own side effects. ...Read more
Not available.: This medication is no longer on the market, but i never heard a reason why. Most often, these are business decisions - even if a medication is effective, it will be discontinued if it doesn't generate enough profit for the manufacturer. With cromolyn, however, there probably wasn't enough bang for the buck; inhaled steroids are vastly more effective, and cromolyn was quite expensive. ...Read more
I have severe allergies was perscribed astelin nose spray & eye drops zyrtec (cetirizine) ventolin inhaler duo neb its not that effective add anything?
Allergy asthma meds: It sounds like you have severe allergies and some asthma . OTC sprays Nasacort and Flonase help nasal symptoms but take a few days to kick in . Singulair (montelukast) is a prescription pill that can help with nasal or chest symptoms . Steroid inhalers are important for asthma (e.g. Qvar, Flovent). If allergies are severe, see an allergist and get skin tests. Allergy shots are better than meds for long term. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Fair: Cromolyn is effective for a subclass of patients with asthma. We lack a blood or other test to identify those persons who are likely to respond so you have to try everyone. The trial requires administration 4x/day for 30 days. Its hard for many people to stay on this schedule so some people who might be helped do not benefit. Once shown to work some folks can take cromolyn 3x or twice a day. ...Read more
