How is it possible to have a negative inspiratory reserve volume?

How is it possible to have a negative inspiratory reserve volume?

Pressure vs volume: There is an episode of the Simpsons in which their bodies turn inside out, which is what I would picture happening if one had a negative RV. However, negative inspiratory force (NIF) is a useful tool to assess respiratory muscle strength. Inspiration is an active movement, requiring mainly your diaphragm. In folks with neuromuscular diseases or paralysis, their NIF would be closely monitored. ...Read more

R sided hemm. Ovarian cyst 46.6mmx41.9x45.9 volume 46.9ml. History endoand decreased ov reserve n/v, pain how long does it take to absorb? Waiting to do ivf

R sided hemm. Ovarian cyst 46.6mmx41.9x45.9 volume 46.9ml. History endoand decreased ov reserve n/v, pain how long does it take to absorb? Waiting to do ivf

It may not absorb: If it is truly a hemorrhagic cyst it should resolve in 4-6 weeks if not sooner. If it is an endometrioma, it may not resolve on its own and may require surgery to improve your ivf outcome. I recommend you talk to your reproductive endocrinologist about strategy here. You don't want to lose time if you have diminished ovarian reserve. ...Read more

How much weight can I lose with large volume liposuction?

Inches, not Pounds: Liposuction will change you in inches more than in pounds. It works best for localized deposits of fat that don’t respond to conventional diet and exercise. The correction from surgery is permanent.

But since you asked about weight, the answer depends on how heavy you are to start with. The most I have removed in one surgery is about 22 lbs, or 11 liters of fat. Think of 5 - 2 liter pop bottles.. ...Read more

What is the smallest testicular volume considered normal for a health adult?

What is the smallest testicular volume considered normal for a health adult?

Normal?: On ultrasonography, you'll find figures of 18 ml as the low number for young men, but in two series of older men, the actual mean was 9-10 ml. Truth be told, ryan, why ask? You need enough functioning testicular tissue to maintain your adult male stuff and if you want, to become a father. The correlation with size is negligible, and few people are interested in who's got the big pair. ...Read more

My prostate mildly enlarged in size, 39x35x31mm, volume is 23.6, what can I expect about this diagnosis?

My prostate mildly enlarged in size, 39x35x31mm, volume is 23.6, what can I expect about this diagnosis?

Not to worry.: The size of the prostate is not as important as the symptoms the prostate can cause. Many large volume prostates cause no urinary bother, and some smaller prostates do. If you are having greater urinary urgency, frequency, nighttime voids, weak stream, or incomplete emptying of the bladder, see a urologist for evaluation. Otherwise, a volume of 23.6g is not in itself, significant. ...Read more

Hi, I had a 3d scan today, am 7 weeks and 2 days. Sac size and crl are as expected but sac volume is 6.8ml, is that too low?

Probably low normal: While this isn't my area of expertise I do have some experience using ultrasound. The measurements are highly dependent on the healthcare provider using the machine. (i.e. Operator dependent) it is so early in your pregnancy you are talking about very small volumes. If I were you I wouldn't fret and worry over every minor detail and number. I'm sure you're in excellent hands. Be well. ...Read more

I was proposed to get an intradiscal injection of ozone, in order to reduce the volume of the disc. Is it a better alternative than microdiscectomy?

Well...: This is a relatively new thing and most people don't use it. I personally do not. Not much good literature out there to support it but that doesn't mean it won't work. However, microdiscectomy is a time tested procedure and directly targets the problem and gives the surgeon visual confirmation of adequate decompression. Good luck! Please do more research about the ozone procedure before signing. ...Read more

What testicle volume constitutes microorchidism?

See answer: There is much confusion regarding normal testis size and volume depending on such factors as age, ethnicity, what tool was used to measure volume (ultrasound or prader orchidometer), and what formula was used to measure volume, etc. A reasonable answer using ultrasound for normal adult males would be: 4.0- 5.5 cm in height, 2.5-3.2 cm width, and 12-25 cm in volume.
