Tested pos for strep 7/2/17. Prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days. Twice a day. I would forget to take the 2nd pill at times. But never skipped a day. I had pills left over. Today is 11th day. I took one in the A.M. But I lost my pills. Am I at risk?
Strep: No, I think you have probably taken sufficient to eradicate the strep ...Read more

Yes: All drugs expire eventually. There should be an expiration date on your prescription. When in doubt, throw out anything greater than 1 year old. ...Read more

Depends on reason: Each case is different. A patient can ask her own doctor about her individual case. Amoxicillin usually works for infections like strep throat, at 250mg 3 times a day, but 500mg 3 times a day is ok too. A doctor might prescribe more Amoxicillin if he thinks the patient's infection needs a bigger dose, or if he thinks the patient's intestines are not absorbing enough of the medication, etc... ...Read more
Not your business?: Sorry, but this sounds like you're trying to figure out why someone else is taking the antibiotic. Probably you are well meaning, but it's probably none of your business. If you think it is, or you are genuinely concerned about his or her health, ask them. But don't expect help on this forum for snooping about someone's prescription medication. ...Read more
Hi I need help my boy is 18mts and I have given him amoxicillin 4 times instead of 3 will he be ok?
Yes: amoxicillin is not toxic, so if your son had an extra dose he will be okay. More isn't better, but it's not dangerous. The prescribed dose is the best dose. Actually it would probably be worse if you "under dosed" your son, as opposed to giving an extra dose, because the bacteria would have a better chance of surviving! So don't worry, but try not to do it again! :) ...Read more
Can one take amoxicillin and albenda and prazi? Not all at once, but in the same day at different times?
Dr prescribed 125mg/5ml amoxicillin for 16.8lb baby. 5ml three times daily. Is this the right dosage for her?
Maybe, maybe not: The dose for an infection will vary with the age of the patient and the illness being treated. If the kid is over 3 months of age and this is for a urinary tract or respiratory infection it is pretty standard. If over 3 months and for an ear infection, it is at the low end of the dosing range but might work. ...Read more
I have to take 1g amoxicillin three times a day, how often should I take it? Can it be taken say every 6 hours?
6 hours is fine: If the prescription says 3 times a day (tid), every 8 hours is not the requirement. When it comes to oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin, every 6 hours should be practically just as good. Long answer but that's what I expect of my patients if I write 3 times a day prescription. It means 3 times a day while awake, roughly every 6 hours. ...Read more

I misread my directions and was taking amoxicillin two times a day instead of two time twice a day. I did this for a week. Will this mess me up?
Amoxicillin xcess: Amoxicillin is one of the most prescribed antibiotics in medicine and dentistry. Double dosing is unlikely to cause any difficulties or problems. Taking too much of an antibiotic is no more effective against the infection than the appropriate dose but the excess is processed and eliminated in the urine. Taking too little of the drug can theoretically put you at risk of unresponsive infection. ...Read more

Prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg 2 pills twice a day for 7 days. Accidentally been taking 1 pill twice a day for 5 days. Can I up it to 3 or 4, 2x a day?
The 500 mg twice a day should be an adequate dose for most infections. You could increase to 2 twice a day and possibly extend to a total of 10 days. But a lot of this depends on how much your infection is improving. You could also possibly continue 1 twice a day for 10 days. But I believe the best thing to do is to contact the prescribing Dr. To ask his or her advice.
