They could but...: The symptoms you are describing are very common. They can be associated with colon cancer but there many more causes that are probably more common in the general population. GI-flatukence: Bloating, belching, foul gas can be from multiple causes: bacterial infection, amebic infection, gallbladder disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and many other diseases of the GI tract. Please get help...: Gi bleeding is never normal, but when prolonged for months associated with lower abdominal distress as you describe, then colitis (colon inflammation) must be ruled out. Possibilities at your age most likely include: 1) inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or crohn's); 2) infection, maybe chronic or recurrent. IBS: Is best treated by hi fiber and fluids, consistent meal times and quantities of food. Drink 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluid daily, more if you exercis. This may be IBD: mucus and diarrhea is usually a phenomenon of inflammation of bowel. The colonoscope is designed to examine the colon for tumor and can reach terminal ileum but can visualize above it.
