Stroke rehab: You have right body weakness and muscle atrophy from lack of usage resulting from a stroke on left side of your brain. Depending of the nature and size of stroke lesion, you may recover some or all of your motor function with time. It is important to receive physical therapy and post-stroke rehab to keep your muscle tone and prevent permanent atrophy and chronic contraction of your tendons. ...Read more

If not a stroke as MRI states, what cd be the cause of sudden immobility of left arm and leg and speech impediment, left side of face is droopy. Tnks?
Possible TIA?: Sudden weakness/paralysis of one side of the body along with speech difficulty would usually indicate a stroke if the symptoms persisted for many hours or a day. In this case the MRI should indicate brain damage (infarction). If the neurological symptoms resolved within a day or so, and a MRI was done afterward and was normal, it would indicate a Transient Ischemic Attack. SEE www. Bit. Ly/1qu6w2M ...Read more

A relative (age 70) had a stroke 2 years ago. He can move one arm and leg well, and the other leg a little. Would physical therapy still be helpful at this late date? Is there a chance he could walk?
Unlikely....: Most recovery after a neurological injury like a stroke happens during the first year. Physical therapy may help to achieve more recovery but to go from moving the affected leg "a little" to walking is unlikely. But, if physical therapy has not been tried, it is worthwhile to pursue to see exactly what recovery occurs. Good luck! ...Read more

Weakness: Strokes do not normally cause pain. People may notice numbness or weakness in the face, arms or legs (usually on one side or another) or they may have difficulty speaking or thinking. 9 days ago I went for a walk then I got red non itchy spots on my arms + the tops of my legs. I have 10. I did stroke a dog. I don't have pets. Thxs.
Nondiagnostic: More description of the rash is needed but, better still, an examination by your physician or dermatologist would be desirable in order to make a diagnosis. With the absence of itching insect bites or hives would be unlikely. These could be petecchiae from burst capillaries and, if so, will gradually clear. Get examined if the rash persists or worsens. ...Read more
I am getting numbness on the right side of my body including head, have fainted with PVCs and lost control of arms/legs could this have been a stroke?
Probably not: If you have no weakness or numbness now, only brain imaging will tell. Women your age are at much higher risk for other conditions than strokes. Unfortunately, "lost control" is far too vague to be helpful when giving a history of your problems. Also, the business about fainting and PVCs seems just thrown in there; relationship to your chief complaint is impossible to assess w/o more info. ...Read more

Did I have a stroke or a TIA? I woke up numb on only the right side (arm & leg). My arm had marks on it (it felt like I laid on it). & swollen hand.?
Common symptoms: A person who wakes up with some temporary limb numbness, with marks on the limb suggesting the person slept too long on that limb, most likely actually slept too long on the limb, pressing on the veins and nerves to that limb, thus causing temporary numbness. It's good to change positions while sleeping (avoids this problem). ...Read more

80+ female. Second stroke. Clot in brain. Moving arms and legs but NT concious fr 2 days-since stroke. Docs call It drowsiness. Wats the prognosis?
Fair: With every passing day, persistent lack of consciousness hints at a poor progrnosis. However, to provide you with an exact answer it would help to know exactly where in the brain the stroke occurred based on MRI. In addition, it would be helpful to know what type of treatment they are giving for the clot and exact neurological functions. Keep me posted on her progress. Talk to her neurologist ...Read more

Just had normal mri/mra of neck, carotid, posterior fossa - now numbness face, then arm, now legs. Should I worry about stroke?
Yes: If you just had clear imaging recently, and then after that started noticing this, then yes, you should still consider stroke. While those images came out clear, that was just one moment of time. Anything can happen after that, and with one sided numbness, I would recommend getting checked out as soon as possible. ...Read more
