When running for 20+ minutes my leg hurts on the left side where the tendons are, doesn't happen when i exercise generally though, only when running?

Could be a few thing: This could be a variety of issues - but if it continues unresolved for more than 2 weeks - a visit is in order to assure continued activity does not advance the possible injury. It could simply require some physical therapy - as a runner myself - it is important to have it checked out. Running is a great activity and does require a few "tune-ups" from docs time to time. It's a good problem. ...Read more

Pain only when i step a certain way in tendon on outside of leg with weakness like i'm going to stretch leg too far. Felt a slight pop there 2 mth ago?

Where in leg?: Sounds like you strained a tendon as u have noted and it has not yet healed. Not sure where in the 'leg' you are describing. "leg" in ortho terms means below your knee... Not the thigh.Be more specific in your location of your pain and i'll venture a guess... Sounds like around your knee and thus could be a knee ligament... Or ankle? ...Read more

I'm a runner, and my muscles and tendons are getting increasingly sore at the top of my femur on the outside of my leg. I stretch regularly. Ideas?

Sorry just noticed: Just realized you said top of femur. If in lower leg my answer. Would stand. Out upper leg could be a bursitis or tendinitis....Even a type of fasciitis. Avoid offending activity for several weeks....Otc antiinflamatories and ortho follow up if conservative measures aren't enough. ...Read more

Strained my muscle/tendon, specif. Arnd semitendinosus tendon area i think, near the inner and back of my right knee when i stretch out my leg to run?

Strained my muscle/tendon, specif. Arnd semitendinosus tendon area i think, near the inner and back of my right knee when i stretch out my leg to run?

Let it rest: Hamstring muscle/ tendon strains esp.@ the knee take a while to heal.If you strained your "semi- t" then rest , ice , compression , elevation(rice) is appropriate acutely . Avoid running or other activities which will aggravate it. The biggest mistake i see in athletes is coming back to soon after a hamstring injury. There is no substitute for rest. U may be able to swim or ex. Bike w/o re-injury. ...Read more

When I stretch my left leg I get a stinging pain in my heel. I broke my left ankle some years back and pulled the ligaments and tendons in my foot.

Think back...: Although the first thought may be to link the past ankle and foot trauma to your heel pain now. One can never be to sure about these things as there may be a some involvement with your back, specifically, the lower spine. This also could be the true reason for the heel pain. To get to nitty gritty, so to speak, a thorough lower back and leg evaluation is needed. ...Read more

I : I agree with dr. Fowler, and suggest you get your ankle checked out.

In terms of which type of doctor to see, you have a choice between an orthopedic surgeon and a podiatrist, as this falls into both areas.

Why not go back to the doctor who saw you initially last year? He/she has the unique ability to know how your ankle was a year ago, which may be of help in treating it now.

Good luck! ...Read more

It : It definitely sounds like you need an mri. This will show any tendon or ligament damage. See your doctor. He/she will exam you, order an x-ray first then decide on an mri. If possible see an orthopedist. If not your doctor will refer you after doing preliminary tests.
Good luck. ...Read more

I cycle a lot (very hilly in HK) and have developed some pain in my left ankle. It burns when I stretch it. Achilles' tendon or something else?

Achilles in back: If you have pain and point tenderness over the large tendon at the back of the ankle, then yes, think Achilles tendonitis. Burning, though, is sometimes a sign of nerve inflammation. The sural nerve can be irritated near the back of the ankle as well. How can I identify and recover an injured tendon in my leg?

How can I identify and recover an injured tendon in my leg?

Leg tendon injury: Muscles of the leg have an action on the foot, or conversely, the muscles that govern the foot are in the leg. As a tendon is part of a muscle, careful exam of foot function can identify the injured leg tendon (or muscle).
