Exercise Contraindications In People With High Blood Pressure
A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more

BP: High blood pressure is not 'good' at any time. You should see your doc and get evaluated and treated if necessary.
Don't exercise!: You don't want to pop your top, do you? First, you need to get your blood pressure under control with medicines! After that issue has stabilized, then concern yourself with low salt diet, low sugar diet, weight loss, decreased alcohol intake, quitting smoking, exercising to get into shape, and all of the other necessary lifestyle changes. Exercise right now will make your pressure increase!
Given that if you exercise your blood pressure eventually goes down if you have a high blood pressure, but why?
Not exactlly: Shortly after exercise, BP falls as you cool down. This is because your blood vessels dilated with exercise as you open vascular beds in your muscles and your total peripheral resistance falls. This is a short term effect and has no long term benefit for controlling hbp
It is Good!: Exercise has many cardiovascular benefits. A regular exercise program has been shown to be part of a successful weight reduction program, improve cardiovascular function and help reduce hypertension and its ill effects. However, since blood pressure normally rises with exercise those with severe hypertension may need a graduated, supervised and monitored program to start.See 1 more doctor answer

What would cause visual disturbance during intense exercise? It seems to coincide with high blood pressure as the blurring throbs with each pulse.
Iv had consistently high blood pressure for a year even with exercise and good diet. At what point do I start worrying. My doc still hasn't addressed it?
Depends: At your age, very early for what we call essential hypertension. Hope your doctor did work up (blood work, urine test and EKG) to look for correctable causes of high blood pressure (less than 5% of folks). If all negative, I will go 6 mo with diet and exercise changes. If stil up, time to start medication.
High blood pressure my doctor said he doesn't want meds because I am 26 he wants me to lose 80lbs and get more exercise. Do you agree?
High blood pressure: Hard to say without knowing what your blood pressure readings actually are. That being said, if you need to lose 80 lbs, then you will undoubtedly have improvements in your blood pressure without all that extra weight. There are a huge number of other benefits to being at a healthy weight, so please do start a sound diet and exercise plan.See 1 more doctor answer
I am on high blood pressure tablets but wen I exercise it comes down when I don't it goes up so I feel tablets are useless waste of time and money? ?
Md's: is there really something called uncontrolled high blood pressure even when meds, diet and exercise are already being used/done? How common?
Yes: It is common. If this happens to you, you need to start looking for a cause for the high blood pressure. Don't just keep piling up the medications.
Decrease risk: Aerobic exercise will make your heart stronger. If your heart can pump blood with less effort then the force at the arteries will decrease and the arteries will relax, decreasing your bp. Control BP will decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke. Plus exercise will control your weight, help with high bad cholesterol and decrease stress in your life, all risk factors for heart disease.

I get blurred vision when I exercise or feel stressed. Could this be a sign of high blood pressure? If so what should I do to stop this firm happenin
Doubt blood HBP: This could be a problem called pigmentary dispersion - which is mostly likely in higher myopes. If this is happening consistently then you should see a n ophthalmolgist for evaluation. High blood pressure is very uncommon at your age and does not cause visual blur in any case unless it is crazy high.
A doctor says heavy exercise during night (after working entire day) is harmful, increases risk of heart & high blood pressure. Is it true?
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force placed on the blood vessels and is comprised of the "systolic" pressure (the top number on a blood pressure meter) which is the peak pressure when the heart is pumping, and the "diastolic" pressure (the bottom number on a blood pressure meter) which is the pressure during the resting phase ...Read more
