Spotting: Depo provera, (medroxyprogesterone) or the birth control shot, is known for causing irregular bleeding and spotting. Bleeding after you get off this method may continue for many months. Keep taking them: When I prescribe birth control pills I explain to patients that if they start them right away, they will have unscheduled bleeding during the first pack. If you start just after your period this is less likely. Keep taking them and use a back-up method of birth control (abstinence, condoms, etc) until you're on the second pack. ...Read more

See your OB!: First, good job on stopping the smoking. Keep up the good work. Impossible to determine what is going on without a complete evaluation- physical exam and ultrasound. The ultrasound can show if there has been any separation of the placenta or shortening of the cervix. Cervical shortening is a predictor of preterm labor and premature membrane rupture. So get seen and treated as required.

Depends:: Uterine fibroids are very, very common. Most cause no problems. Sometimes they can affect periods. They don't make bcp's less effective. If you are having unusual bleeding patterns or pain, there are likely other causes. If you have two abnormal periods in a row, and you are not pregnant, get checked. ...Read more

Cervical stenosis: Sometimes the cervical opening will scar shut after ablation and not allow any bleeding to pass. As it builds up, the uterus will cramp to try and force it out and this can be very painful. See your doc for a sono.
