Hard to say: The fact that the mucus is clear is a good sign. With sore throat, chronic cough and clear mucus, sounds like you may have allergies causing nasal drainage and post nasal drip leading to the sore throat and cough. I suggest evaluation by physician for postnasal drainage and also for possible small airways construction (asthma). ...Read more

LPR: Exposure of the vocal cords to stomach acid & pepsin will result in inflammation of the vocal cords (as is also often seen with acid regurgitation). Acute laryngitis may result, but watch out for chronic hoarseness, throat clearing, airway spasms, bronchitis, an asthma-type presentation, and even a higher risk of throat cancer. Impedance pH testing with a symptom diary can best characterize this. ...Read more

Fluids and Rest: Modern science has not yet found a cure for the common cold. Symptom relief is possible with decongestants/antihistamines, chloraspetic for sore throats, and tylenol (acetaminophen) for fevers and pain. If the symptoms persist for more than a few days then you should see your doctor and make sure you dont have strep throat or some other treatable illness. However strep does not usually cause a runny nose. ...Read more

Possible Reflux: Esophageal reflux is a common cause of throat clearing, post nasal dip and a mucousy cough with a clear nose. Treatment of reflux with diet modification, if appropriate weight loss, and if needed stomach medications to reduce acid in the stomach can often be helpful. Depends on past hx: Some patients with asthma can have severe problems with mucus plugging in the airways resulting in a severe asthma attack. If you haven't had that before, then it is not likely to occur, but you still need to take care of your asthma. Call your doctor if you are needing albuterol more than every 4 hours, or if it doesn't relieve your symptoms. ...Read more

Something is blocking my phlem and mucus from coming up could I have an infection in my throat or neck that's preventing it?

Something is blocking my phlem and mucus from coming up could I have an infection in my throat or neck that's preventing it?

Need more info: The first question is why do you think you have phlegm that needs to come up? If you are having a loose cough and hear rattling in your chest you may have an active infection in your lungs. If however you are feeling a fullness in your throat this may not necessarily be related to an infection and this "globus" sensation may be a manifestation of other conditions such as gerd or thyroid disease. ...Read more
