I am 19 years old and every time I get a sore throat, I produce excess saliva. Why and how can I prevent this? My family members do not get this.
Swallowing problem: I can't be specific without examing you, but my guess is that your sore throat is associated with swelling inthe back of your throat. The swelling decreases how quickly you can swallow the saliva that you are producing. I doubt that you are actually producing more saliva-but rather, not swallowing it as easily as normal. ...Read more

Dr. Can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold virus, influenza (Tamiflu may be needed), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, is with moderate or high fever, or with much coughing or worrisome symptoms. Sounds like reflux: Putting all the signs together, your throat irritation results from the reflux acid coming up the esophagus and causing painful symptoms. These both can be obtained over the counter, but a doctor's care will improve your outcome! ...Read more

Pharyngitis: It's possible that this is due to allergies from postnasal drip and throat irritation. However, viral infections of the throat as well as strep throat can also cause pain. If you have swollen glands in your neck and under your job, a fever, or can see white spots on your tonsils, you should see your doctor. ...Read more
Is strep throat a symptom of HIV? M-M contact. No penetration. Possible saliva contact with anus. 6 days later, sore throat. Tested + for strep throat
Test for HIV: Strep throat is not a sign of HIV, but acute HIV infection can also announce itself as a bad sore throat from which strep may grow. It sounds like your contact was safe, it's too early to be sick from HIV from the guy, and as a grown man you should test for HIV yearly. Many, perhaps most, men do a little safe exploring with a friend at some time. I hope you'll value what happened, and love safely. ...Read more

Chronic pharyngitis: The issues to be addressed would be whether there is post nasal drip from a nasal or sinus condition, sore throat due to chronic tonsillitis, or if reflux is playing a role. You mentioned being treated for reflux, but may not have been optimal dosing and duration of treatment. You need a good ENT exam, fiber-optic nasophryngoscopy, and then treatment can be properly initiated. ...Read more
Swabbed; Viral sore throat: back of mouth as far as tongue reaches. Very painful, hard to even swallow saliva. Any home remedies to reduce pain?
Have GERD, noticed something that feels like obstruction in my throat that gets better when I burp. I also get sore throat and rib pain on both sides.
Swallowing trouble?: Swallowing trouble can reflect problems when moving food from mouth to upper esophagus (tranfer dysphagia) or when moving food down the esophagus (transit dysphagia). Partial obstruction of esophagus may "hang-up" dry solid foods but typically allow liquids to pass. Motility disorders may "hang-up" both solids as well as liquids. Consider globus, spasm, as well as eosinophilic esophagitis too here. ...Read more

Congestion: It sounds like you have an upper respiratory infection which is causing nasal and upper airway congestion which is blocking off your eustacian tubes. This causes obstruction in the passage of air into the middle ear and leads to the popping sensation. It should get better as the infection runs it's course. An oral or nasal decongestant may give some short term relief. ...Read more
