I: I am sorry that you are under all of this stress from the worry of this. I am glad you had your glucose tested. With your health history, you should be closely establish both with an internal medicine physician and a gynecologist to be followed in the future. I read that beer or liquor (example: vodka) are equally as good for your health (when having 1 drink per day) as wine. Is this really true?

Not all buzzes equal: 1.5 oz of liquor, 4-5 oz wine, 12 oz beer in US has generally same alcohol content. While controversial no alcohol is probably best but generally accepted 1-2/day max may be safe. Health benefits may vary, red wine generally accepted as better. In past showed greater association of cataracts with beer and hard liquor. Bottom line occasionally one won't hurt. Don't save up for all 14 on weekend ...Read more

Is it safe to get vaccines at a pharmacy like cvs for example? I'm 26 male good health. Know I'm due for a tetanus but what else would be good?

My opinion: The second part of your question is exactly the problem with pharmacies giving vaccines. Most of the time you don't know everything you need, and they certainly don't.They have no way to verify what you have had in the past and when, and thus what you are due for. It takes away that consultation from your primary physician who can help you decide what is right for you. While safe, likely incomplete. ...Read more

I: I agree with you, this definitely happens. It can depend on the doctor's training, their practice, what they themselves have seen and diagnosed in the past, and the way they understand the question. It can also depend on their "frame of reference", or how they are viewing the situation based on their fund of knowledge.

The same thing most likely happens in other professions, such as investment advisors giving conflicting information, or even mechanics. It is frustrating for patients and their families, but it is good to keep asking the questions and obtaining different opinions. ...Read more

Does a minor need parental consent to get medical care related to sexual health? For example getting a vaccine or getting medication.

Varies: Many states like mine, Texas, consider parental consent a barrier to a treatment for sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, birth control and similar needs. These are exempted specifically from parental consent rules. However, when a minor uses their parents insurance to access any of these services parental notification will eventually occur as insurance EOB documents reach them. ...Read more
