When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Is it normal for women who have had their uterus removed to still produce breast milk, as if preparing for child birth?
Yes: It can still happen if the ovaries are left and they produce the hormones that trigger prolactin release from the pituitary that stimulates milk letdown. I would still see my gynecologist for further work up just to make sure it isn't something else causing the problem. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No connection: Age of onset of puberty is when a woman starts ovulating, generally once per month. The overall number of eggs that ovulate or become fertilized is a set number (as compared to men, where the testicles make new sperm all the time). When a woman stops ovulating, she can no longer get pregnant, generally age 45-50. However, when this occurs, is--as I am aware--is not related to puberty. ...Read more
I'm confused because I know seveal women whom have had their cycles for four to five months of their pregnancy, conception that occurs close to cycle.
Internet: Please don't believe everything you read online. Viable pregnancy stops vaginal bleeding in nearly every pregnancy. Bleeding is never considered normal in pregnancy and is often a significant concern. Possible theory: Estrogen levels are high in pregnancy and estrogen appears to inhibit a chemical called monoamine oxidase. Monoamine oxidase normally breaks down serotonin, Dopamine and norepinephrine. After delivery, estrogen levels rapidly decrease, increasing the activity of monoamine oxidase which in turn leads to more rapid breakdown of serotonin, etc. Postpartum depression is serious and needs treatment. ...Read more
Is it true that some women never get positive pregnancy tests throughout their pregnancy? Been reading stories online
I've read many stories of women who had normal periods throughout their entire pregnancy. How common is it to have normal periods during pregnancy?
Not normal: I've been an obstetrician for over 10 years and i've never had a patient tell me they had normal periods during your pregnancy. I've heard people talk about it as a phenomenon but i think it's a misnomer. The uterine lining cannot shed during the pregnancy. Women can have bleeding in pregnancy... But not a cycle. ...Read more
Best to hold off: Every paint has organic solvents that evaporate into the air. I am not aware of any studies on this topic. Since we really don't know the answer and there is no reason to expose pregnant women & newborns to this-i would hold off on painting for awhil, or keep away from the fumes for 1-2 days and let the place air out. ...Read more
I hear cases of women dying months later after delivering their babies. What is the reason for this?
No idea: There are many reasons for women to have illness (even death) after delivery. She may get an infection, have ongoing bleeding, or have an air embolus or blood clot. These are all very rare. The important thing is to follow up with your doctor after having a baby and make sure that you remain healthy. ...Read more
