Hiatal hernia: It sounds like you may have a hiatal hernia which is a protrusion of your stomach into your esophagus. There is leakage of acidic gastric juice into your esophagus causing irritation. Avoid spicy food: If the spicy food is making you sick start eating milder food. If the indigestion persists see your doctor. You may have esophagitis or gastritis and you need to see a doctor for the diagnostic work up. ...Read more

It hurts to eat or drink anything. I have severe gas and indigestion in my upper chest. Constant burning and more severe when i eat or drink any thing. Pain is 8 on (1-10) scale. Gaviscon and Pepcid (famotidine) are giving minimal temporary relief.

Recommend : Recommend that you see you physician for a clinical examination. There are several things that could be causing these symptoms that need to be ruled out or in. No LES/Acid: You many have many reasons for this but apparently your lower esophageal sphincter (les) is not working and/or you have an overproducton of acid. Severe gerd (gastroesophageal reflux) needs evaluation with an endoscopy and treatment for findings and underlying causes. Usually a ppi (prilosec type drug) is used and maybe an h-2 (zantac (ranitidine) type). You need evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

Avoid: The most important things are stop smoking, decrease alcohol intake, do not eat 2 hours before going to bed. Elevate the head of the bed, avoid tight fitting clothes, loose weight if you are overweight. Ten pounds can make a huge difference.
