Does evening primrose oil increase estrogen? I think I'm estrogen dominant, I have PCOS and wanted to try using EPO. Should I try it?
Not recommended: EPO has been studied in a severe estrogen diminished state such as postmenopause. Available data suggest that it is no more effective than placebo. In the only randomized trial to address this issue 56 symptomatic postmenopausal women were randomly assigned to EPO versus placebo for six months. There was no significant difference in symptoms. Does taking evening primrose oil capsulesdaily cause side effects like reduced testosterone levels?
Lots of unknowns: Evening primrose is peddled as good for almost everything, which can't possibly be true; its proponents cherry-pick obscure journals and exaggerate the claims. The most believable claim is that it helps women who get sore breasts at the same time each month. It probably does not help with acne. I could find nothing on its reducing serum testosterone, but i'd still discourage you from using it. ...Read more
