Eustchina Tube Clogged
I recently got an HSG done and was told both of my tubes are clogged. I am going on my 3rd day bleeding excessively, is that normal?
On my shunt flow study test it looked like the dye had stopped half-way it didn't get to the end of the tube I am hearing a clogging noise in there to?
No: You sound like you may have an intraventricular shunt. If it is truly blocked you have a neurosurgical emergency and you should be communicating with me from "the ether". Come to think of it you are! Anyhow, no you hear through your ears and you are not hearing any noises from your shunt other than anxiety. ...Read more
No usually: I suspect the "tube in the ear" you are discussing is the eustachian tube, which leads from the ear to the throat and drains ear fluid. It generally does not get "out of place," but rather there is swelling of it or next to it that slows or blocks the ear fluid, causing pain from the ear to neck/jaw/throat. Usually the cause cures itself. Only rarely is surgery needed. Good luck! ...Read more
My ears have been clogged for a few weeks and wondering if hydrogen peroxide is safe to use to clean them out if I've had tubes put in as a child?

Eustachian Tube: Hello. Your issue is the dysfunction of the eustachian tube. Allergy and sinusitis are two common causes of this disorder, other causes could be pressure changes in your environment, viral that may be sub clinical in that you never had any symptoms of a cold, undiagnosed allergy or an irritant. See your doctor for confirmation saline sinus wash followed by Afrin nasal spray as directed will help. ...Read more

An audiologist did a tympanometry test on ears & didn't find a problem. My Eustachian tubes still feels clogged. Is a tympanometry test 100% accurate?
Hard to feel tubes.:
You likely aren't able to feel your eustachian tubes however you might feel a sensation of fullness in the ear. This could be due to ringing or decreased hearing from thickening of the your ear drum or irritation of the nerve in that ear.
Tympanometry tests are vague and generally can't be relied upon 100%. However, if they are normal for the most part it's unlikely that you have anything serious. ...Read more

I have been to an ENT and eustachian tube is clogged. It's been clogged for about 4 months. The ENT gave nasonex (mometasone) and nothing had changed. Help?
See allergist: Although nasal steroids such as Nasonex (mometasone) often help relieve nasal congestion, the wrong technique often renders it less effective. Be sure you aim the nozzle towards the ear side of the nose and, contrary to what the package insert says, don't breathe the aerosol in while spraying. It will take a few days to work. If this didn't, ask your doctor to consider using dymista. ...Read more
Decadron (dexamethasone) drops for new ear tube that's clogged. The drops hurt a lot when I put them in. Is there anyway to make it hurt less? Why does is hurt so bad?
Giving otic drops: This may be an adverse reaction from the medication itself. Try premedicating with Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen). I often find that warming up the drops by rolling the bottle between your hands helps with the discomfort/dizziness that can occur with administration of the medication. ...Read more

I my ear tube that was put in yesterday is now clogged. They gave me Decadron (dexamethasone) drops. They never told me how to unclog it. How do i? What caused it?
The doctor told me to put peroxide in his ear because they are clogged but he has tubes so when I did it the second ear he screamed how do I make it not hurt any more?
Tubes: I formerly had parents do the same. Stopped because peroxide thru a patent PE tube is painful to child. Probably better to take child in, put in paposse, and do micro cleaning. The ear suspensions (water based) tend to be less painful than solutions. Depends on whatever you are comfortable with. ...Read more
How long does it take to clear the eustachian tubes once they are clogged from cold and sinus infection? It happened after a cold and sinus infection. Taking amxicillin; hearing is muffled.
A blocked ear after an infection is a very individual thing. If this is the first time this has happened and if you have no problems with your ears flying then it will probably clear rapidly (days). If this is something that happens frequently then there may be a more chronic condition going on such as chronic sinusitis which can smolder for a much longer time (weeks). Muffled hearing suggests fluid in the ear which usually means this is a more serious condition and should be evaluated by an ENT physician who would not only look at your ears but also look in your nose with a nasal endoscope to evaluate the sinuses and eustachian tube area and obtain cultures if necessary. This is best done a week or so after taking the Amoxicillin if symptoms are still present.
Nasal irrigations with a nettie pot may help speed up the recovery as will a few days of afrin use. ...Read more

Can Afrin and Flonase thickin the fluid in Eustachian Tube? I used both yesterday 2 sprays in each nostril. My left ear feels clogged today.
Not likely: Flonase does not reach optimum potency until used consistently for days. It is more likely that whatever causes one to use nose sprays in the first place results in inefficient Eustachian Tube drainage due to inflammation. Stay the course as advised by your physician. Make sure to review the warnings on these if using otc. ...Read more
