What causes heavy long periods with the copper IUD is there any medication I can take. Can I take levlen (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) ED just to stop heavy long flow plz?

What causes heavy long periods with the copper IUD is there any medication I can take. Can I take levlen (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) ED just to stop heavy long flow plz?

Known side effect: The copper IUD is known to cause heavier periods, probably due to localized irritation and inflammation. If it is sufficiently severe the solution is to remove the IUD. The Levlen (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) might help but that defeats the point of the IUD. A better approach would be to switch to the progesterone IUD which will actually decrease flow. ...Read more

Just started ortho tri cyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) lo birth control. % of people that actually get blood clots seems too common? Scared. What is the actual % of people who get serious side affects from this drug?

Just started ortho tri cyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) lo birth control. % of people that actually get blood clots seems too common? Scared. What is the actual % of people who get serious side affects from this drug?

I: I am not aware of the actual percentages of each side effect of this birth control pill (bcp). If you check the package insert, this information should be there. On the other hand, I can tell you about my personal experience. I have been in practice well over 5 years. I prescribe bcp's all the time. I have never had one patient develop a blood clot from bcp. I believe part of the reason is that I screen my patients very well. I do not give the pill to anyone who has had a history of blood clots or a family history. Also I will not give the pill to a smoker over 35, and strongly advise against it in my younger patients.
Bcp's are safe and very effective if given to the right patient. They protect against ovarian and uterine cancers. If your doctor felt you were a good candidate, then your odds are very low for developing any serious complications.
Take care. ...Read more

Should norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol be taken at the same time everyday?

Hormone punctuality: If the question involves taking oral contraceptives, today's BCP's are extremely low in content of both hormones. Consequently, if not taken within the hour of the previous day, withdrawal bleeding can occur. Additionally, they should be taken in the evening, so that the lowest blood levels do not occur in the early hours of the AM. PMS symptoms can occur if late. ...Read more

I have taking 2 pills daily of 0.03mg ethinyl estradiol and 0.15mg levonorgestrel for over 1.5 year. Can I change it to 1 pill per day? And wat safety?

How long does it for trinessa (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol) to be effective?

Day1-5 ok right away: You are protected against pregnancy right away if you take it during the first 5 days after your period starts. So if your period starts on monday, you can start the pill up to friday for instant protection. If you start on day #6 or later, then it takes about a week before you're fully protected & so you should use a back up method (condom, female condom, diaphragm, or sponge) during the 1st week. ...Read more

Taking norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol tablets. I missed pill by two hours am I still protected? Does it always have to be at the same time?

Just take pill daily: It is best to remember taking your contraceptive pills every day at about the same time so that the level of the hormones in your blood remains rather constant and stable. " Missing a pill by two hours" is not likely to matter very much or to make you less "protected". Consider asking your Gyn for an IUD or a subdermal implants which are much more effective and are "forgettable" methods. ...Read more

Hi. I am on gianvi (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and I wasn't very great about taking them on time this month. Can I take a dosage of it as ec?

Yes: You can take 4 pills all at once. Then 4 more pills all at once 12 hours later. This dose will cause nausea so take a sea-sickness pill (like dramamine) 1 hour before taking each dose. You may want to think about using a different form of pregnancy prevention that requires less effort to remember it each day. The iuds or Nexplanon may be better choices. ...Read more
