Not my 1st choice: I do not like that pill, and it has 30mcg of estrogen and it is 21 days. There are many pills that have less estrogen which is better- less chance for estrogen related side effects. My number one pill i prescribe is loloestin, it only has 10 mcg estrogen which is safer and it has 24 active pills and then 2 estrogen pills so only 2 placebo pills , so you get lighter periods and less chance of a cys. ...Read more

Unlikely: Lo-ovral is a low dose birth control pill that has been around for a long time. It is a progestin dominant pill and like all pills in that category can be associated with some fluid retention, increased appetite and hair changes and lowers the good cholesterol. Ovral (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) had 50 mcg: Estrogen, lo-ovral has 35 mcg estrogen, i never use either of those pills anymore, they both have way too much estrogen in them, I have almost all of my pts either on 25, 20 or 10 mcg estrogen combo pills and I use the 24 day ones not the 21 day ones.Please discuss with your obgyn, generess has 25 mcg, loestrin has 20 mcg and loloestrin has 10 mcg estrogen, the lower the dose the safer. ...Read more

An older pill: I do not ahve any of my patients on that pill anymore. Side efefcts from any pill, could be break through bleeding, irregular bleeding, weight gain, bloating, breast tenderness, . Less common ones are blood clot heart attacck, stroke. No periods can also happen. Headaches. For most young people the benefits far out weigh the risks. No : Differnet pills, I do not like either of those at your age you should be using the lowest dose pill which is loloestrin 10 mcg estrogen safer for anyone in their 40s and if u do not want kids I do in office tubals in my office takes 5 minutes, easy miss 1/2 day work , no incisions. ...Read more
If it works for you.: Pretty much all of the oral combo contraceptives have similar effecacy and risk profile, but one-pill does not fit all. If you don't have any side effect from it and it is affordable, then it is a good one for you.
