Estrogen Level Low But I Take Blood Thinners
Hello, can you tell me if it is standard to be given blood thinners before a surgical procedure, as a precaution? Also, is it standard care for a doctor to take you off of estrogen / birth control prior to a gynecological surgery? If so, for how long bef
Agents which slow ;/or break down blood clot formation in up to 3 different ways (they do not decrease blood viscosity; thickness.) (1) some inhibit platelet function (e.g. Aspirin, clopidogrel, etc.). (2) others interfere with some of the clot forming proteins (warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, etc.), (3) others stimulate the blood clot destruction ...Read more
Is it possible for female to ve low estrogen but normal pb TSH and FSH levels in blood? Or is FSH another name of estrogen?
Yes and no: Estradiol the most common estrogen is a hormone produced in the ovary in the cells which surround the egg. Levels are low early in the cycle fluctuate quite a bit and peak before ovulation. Fsh is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland near the brain and it stimulates eggs to grow. Fsh levels get very high with menopause. Tsh is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland. Pb is lead. ...Read more
Take 200 mg daily prometrium took blood test cycle day 21 progesterone. 9 estrogen 40 fsh 7.2 lh 3.9 progesterone still low?
FSH: age 50: 200 mg. Of prometrium will not raise your progesterone levels above what is noted. An FSH of 7.2 is not menopausal, and indicates that you are producing significant levels of estrogen, just not ovulating, which makes the progesterone level only produced by the prometrium. This is normal for age 50, and your ovaries are still active and productive of estrogen. ...Read more
What time of day is best to take birth control pills? Is it healthier to be asleep or active when the blood estrogen level is highest?
Any time!: The absolute best time to take a birth control pill is when it's convenient for you to remember! These should be taken relatively at the same time each day, such as before bed, upon waking, etc. If you aren't able to remember daily, set a phone alarm or keep them next to your toothbrush, assuming you brush your teeth once a day. There is no health benefit as far as time of day is concerned. ...Read more
What causes low blood level of dhea. I'm 25 female. Adrenal tumor maybe? I have high estrogen and chronic fatigue, body pain etc...
See endocrinologist: Dhea isn't a hormone we typically measure at random because it isn't as reliable as the longer 1/2 life of dheas. Likewise, we usually don't measure total estrogen as it isn't helpful. Dhea is most reliable when compared before and after IV acth during stim testing around other hormones. Adrenal insufficiency can't be identified with a random dhea. ...Read more
As prescribed by Dr: In my experience, Suboxone can be safely co-administered with commonly prescribed blood thinners such as aspirin, heparin, plavix, (clopidogrel) xarelto, warfarin, pradaxa, etc. One should always consult the prescribing physician in such circumstances as there may be other factors to consider. ...Read more

My dad has blood clot in his leg, and he won't take blood thinner, is there any way to fix the blood clot?
Not best approach.: Interventional procedures called thrombolysis can direct clot busting medications at the clot. However, anticoagulation with blood thinners after these procedures is a must. If your family member has concerns about bleeding then they should talk to their physician. Patients who cannot be treated with blood thinners may need to have an ivc filter placed to prevent pulmonary embolism. It does nothing to stop the formation of new clot however. ...Read more
Uncertain: There is very limited information. I was able to find 1 case report suggesting that garcinia prolonged the inr in a patient taking warfarin. No data on newer anticoagulants or anti-platelet agents. Since the exact contents of any "dietary supplement" preparation is not guaranteed, always be cautious when mixing supplements with potent medications like warfarin. ...Read more
Excedrin: Excedrin contains Aspirin which can potentiate anticoagulants by inhibiting platelet function. Taking Aspirin with anticoagulants is possible but should not be done without consulting your doctor. ...Read more
Probably not: This question sounds like a bad idea. Blood thinners are potentially dangerous (bleeding is bad, right?) so any "natural" substance purporting to be a blood thinner could have unpredictable effects. Prescription medications at least are regulated and tested, and would probably be way more safe and reliable than any "natural" supplement you could find. ...Read more
What should I bring on vacation if I am on high amounts of blood thinner? Should I take any special precautions?
Bring meds and plan.: Take your meds and have a plan to get your inr measured if you are due during vacation. (I am assuming you are on coumadin). Do not do anything overly risky. In the case of coumadin, (warfarin) the amount you take is not important. We measure the effect of the blood on your blood's ability to form clot. The amount that keeps your inr on target is the correct dose. ...Read more

Multiple: Clopidogrel is technically not a blood thinner, but an anti-platelet agent. It keeps your platelets from sticking together, which is the first step in clot formation. Common uses are to help a recently placed stent heal, prevent recurrent TIAs, or mini-strokes, and to reduce cardiac risks in patient with peripheral vascular disease. ...Read more

Is vitamin K supplement a blood thinner or a blood thickener? Should I take vitamin k2 supplement while I am taking vitamin D 2000IU supplement?
Neither: Hi. Vitamin K is required for gamma-carboxylation of glutamic acid in the clotting factors. Too little vit. K makes you unable to make the clotting factors. This is basically how warfarin works. But clotting factors are tightly regulated, and taking a vit. K supplement if you're not deficient will have no effect on clotting. ...Read more
Depends: If you are taking coumadin (warfarin) you need to avoid vitamin k. Speak with your doctor. ...Read more
