Which synthetic estrogen is safest, Estradiol Valerate, Mestranol, or Ethinyl Estradiol?

Synthetic meds: 1st no such thing as free lunch ie there's always some potential risk or side effect. 2nd FDA only approves meds which they deem benefit greater than risk (tho obviously not w/o disagreement & controversy). 3rd no studies demonstrate benefit of any oral estrogen over another tho some studies suggest topical safe than oral. 4th Natural isn't safe than synthetic ie tobacco is natural but isn't safe! ...Read more

Estriol (Definition)

There are three forms of naturally occuring estrogen in the body, estrone, estradiol, and estriol. Estriol is the most commonly used and recommended form of estrogen for menopausal symptoms. Estriol has great benefit to the cells of the vagina but has little effect on the breast or the uterine lining when used conservatively. I always recommend the lowest dose of ...Read more

Does exercise affect estradiol + estrone: progesterone ratio?

Is estratest (esterified estrogens and methylestosterone) a biochemical hormone?

Yes...: ...But perhaps you mean bioidentical. All hormones are biochemicals. Estratest (esterified estrogens and methylestosterone) is a combination of methyltestosteone, which is synthetic and not the same as your own testosterone, and mixed estrogen hormones which are excreted by pregnant mares in their urine. These hormones are similar to, but not identical to, natural human hormones. ...Read more

Does Effexor (venlafaxine) raise shbg (sex hormone binding gobulin) levels?

Does Effexor (venlafaxine) raise shbg (sex hormone binding gobulin) levels?

Interesting question: I have not found any publications specifically studying this question. Antipsychotics and Prozac (fluoxetine) can affect prolactin, potentially changing sex hormone levels. This may or may not relate to shbg levels, though. I did find one small (20 patients) study online concerning low testosterone levels and antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction: http://tinyurl.Com/mk84cfr further research needed. ...Read more

Will melatonin or prometrium (micronized progesterone) raise prolactin?

Interesting question: Nocturnal secretion of melatonin has been shown to affect secretion of prolactin. To my knowledge melatonin can exacerbate mild hyperprolactinemia. The relationship between Progesterone and prolactin i think is more unclear. We know thatprogesterone can affect prolactin in various ways. I'm curious to know in what context you would like to know the answer to this question? ...Read more

I am aware that E3 is beyond weak in comparison to E1 and E2, however is there an equivalency ratio of estriol and estradiol?

Question to you-why: Estrogens - these work in different ways - and usually get converted in an orderly fashion accordingly from Cholesterol through the Steroid Tree - and usually an a one way, not bi lateral (two way) direction. So the important part is why are you trying to accomplish - that is the real question. ...Read more

I'm on testosterone therapy, i keep hearing that some of it converts to estrogen. Does it convert to estrone or estrodiol or estriol or all three?

I'm on testosterone therapy, i keep hearing that some of it converts to estrogen. Does it convert to estrone or estrodiol or estriol or all three?

Estradiol: Estradiol is synthesized via aromatase from testosterone. Estrone is synthesized via aromatase from androstenedione. Estriol is synthesized from both Estradiol and estrone. Estradiol is ~10 times as potent as estrone and ~80 times as potent as estriol in its estrogenic effect. In some men on t replacement, too much t is converted to Estradiol and may require a drug like Arimidex (anastrozole) to block. ...Read more

Borderline high: Since your estradiol level was normal, one can't be sure of the significance of a slightly elevated estrone level although one study suggested that it may be a precursor of type 2 diabetes in men. ?of whether it would affect libido or erectile dysfunction. An endocrinologist is best qualified to answer your question, however. Perhaps repeating the test is worthwhile. ...Read more

Couple of questions: Your primary problem of low estrogen could be related to an autoimmune issue. As to the low levels being persistent after a patch is applied that can be related to the product. Some people absorb a cream better or different patches. Talk to your provider about your options. ...Read more

These are: sophisticated tests that need interpretation. Some experts believe an estimate of ovarian reserve (how many eggs you have/their quality) is indicated by the level of FSH or estradiol on day 3 of the menstrual cycle. Your FSH is normal; the estradiol is a little high.SHBG suggests how much estradiol might be available/"unbound". Your results are a little conflicting and need personal interpretation ...Read more
