Hydroxyprogesterone hexanoate is androgen precursor with elimination half-life 7.8 d,for an injection 5ml of 250 mg/mL what is such androgenic effect?

A Hairy Proposition: In women, excess amounts of androgens can cause such "virilizing" effects as acne, hirsutism (excess hair growth in "inappropriate" places, like the chin or upper lip) and thinning hair. Long-time use is associated with serious health consequences, such as insulin resistance and diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease. It all sounds like lots of fun, doesn't it? ...Read more

What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?

What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?

Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. Birth control also lowers ovarian cancer risk (combined pills only) ...Read more

As a doctor, would u sugest an estrogen or progesterone based bc since I am highly prone to cysts, let alone have them.?

Estrogen/progestin: To avoid misunderstanding, all bc is basically progestational in action - that's how it works - regardless of whether it contains estrogen or not. There is no science to give a'rule' about which is more effective/less risky for functional ovarian cysts, it's based on trial and error. That said, i think most do better with a combination oc containing both, start with that. ...Read more
