Can "high estradiol" be a side effect of spironolacton? I took 50 mg for 2 years. How long does it take to come back to normal after stop takeing it?

Very complicated: Spironolactone is a blood pressure medicine, but it also blocks a certain testosterone receptor in the skin. So gyns often use it to help with acne or excessive hair growth. It is possible your "high estrogen could be due to the underlying hormonal problem that led to the need to take spironolactone, but not to the spironolactone itself. You should discuss with with your gyn. ...Read more

What do you mean: The Estring (estradiol) is designed to deliver estrogen to the vagina for a three month interval. It needs a liquid environment to allow this passage. Depends . . .: Tricky question to answer bc depends upon definitions. Pelvic/vaginal exams are separate from Pap smears which look for cervical cancer. Assuming total hysterectomy (TH) for non-cancerous reasons, there's no further need for Pap smears. Common misunderstanding that TH includes removing ovaries - this is not true, as it only refers to removing whole uterus. If ovaries removed too then stop pelvic ...Read more

Was diagnosed with having thin vaginal tissue (not related to menopause, long story) how long will tissue take to repair itself without estrace (estradiol)?

Was diagnosed with having thin vaginal tissue (not related to menopause, long story) how long will tissue take to repair itself without estrace (estradiol)?

Depends: It depends on what is the cause. If you have eliminated the cause of your thinned vaginal skin and you are producing normal amounts of natural hormones, then you should notice improvement within 2 weeks. Nevertheless, i would follow the recommendation of the doctor that prescribed estrace, (estradiol) as I do not really have enough information to assess your disease process. ...Read more

Partial hyst, 50 and smoker trying to quit. What the my risks taking vaginal estrogen like vagifem or estrace (estradiol)?

Little Risk: Vagifem are estrace (estradiol) vaginal cream act locally. Without a Family History of breast cancer, the risk is very little. You should try to quit smoking to decrease your risk of lung cancer, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. I'm not sure what you mean when you say you had a partial hysterectomy. If you mean you still have a cervix, then you may get some spotting if your cervix has endometrial cells. ...Read more
