Synthetic meds: 1st no such thing as free lunch ie there's always some potential risk or side effect. 2nd FDA only approves meds which they deem benefit greater than risk (tho obviously not w/o disagreement & controversy). 3rd no studies demonstrate benefit of any oral estrogen over another tho some studies suggest topical safe than oral. 4th Natural isn't safe than synthetic ie tobacco is natural but isn't safe! ...Read more

Ovral (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) had 50 mcg: Estrogen, lo-ovral has 35 mcg estrogen, i never use either of those pills anymore, they both have way too much estrogen in them, I have almost all of my pts either on 25, 20 or 10 mcg estrogen combo pills and I use the 24 day ones not the 21 day ones. Please discuss with your obgyn, generess has 25 mcg, loestrin has 20 mcg and loloestrin has 10 mcg estrogen, the lower the dose the safer. ...Read more
Combipatch (estradiol and norethindrone): The whi study, which complicated hrt thinking, used prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone) as its estrogen/progesterone drug to study. All things being equal, topical therapy is preferable for relief of menopause symptoms. However, Prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone) is probably more protective for osteoporosis ...Read more

It thins the lining of the uterus which makes it an unpleasant environment for a fertilized egg. ...Read more

The Beast?: If you're referring to "the beast anabolic activator, " a homeopathic spray purporting to contain "molecular imprints" of a slew of hormones (including the 2 you mention), amino acids, RNA & dna (?), and a bunch of other things i've never heard of. In sum, it's water and alcohol, and won't have any effects whatsoever (besides your pocketbook). ...Read more
Is there an alternative to ortho tri cyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) that wont enhance depression?
Perhaps: For most people on a low estrogen formulation of the oral contraceptive, it is the Progesterone component of the pill that is most associated with depression. There are many different progestoerones and a different one from the one in orthotricyclin may have less of a mood effect. Norgestimate (in your pill) is usually well tolerated but some feel drospirenone (in Yaz, (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and others) may be better. ...Read more
