Combipatch (estradiol and norethindrone) hormon replacment -- any suggestion or experience any side effects?

Tough in <400 char: Topical cream & transdermal patches for hormone (replacement) therapy appear to be safer than oral. However, it appears that some of the issues over the last decade re HRT may be due to progestin used, eg medroprogesterone acetate (mpa) or provera. Combipatch uses different one, Norethindrone acetate. I prefer vivelle dot (estradiol) & oral Prometrium (micronized progesterone) (bio-identical progesterone) as possibly safer. Read more

Which is better for HRT prempro or combipatch (estradiol and norethindrone)?

Which is better for HRT prempro or combipatch (estradiol and norethindrone)?

Combipatch (estradiol and norethindrone): The whi study, which complicated hrt thinking, used prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone) as its estrogen/progesterone drug to study. This particular hrt was linked to issues such as breast cancer and heart disease (although the study turned out to be very unreliable!). New, dependable studies have shown that transdermal (patch, cream, gel) hrt has a decreased risk of breast cancer and heart disease compared to oral. Read more

Can I skip the last week of my estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone)?

Can I skip the last week of my estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone)?

Yes and no: The last week of the pack of pills contains iron pills. They are there to help prevent iron deficiency anemia and to keep you on a regular schedule. You do not have to take them but you must then remember to skip a whole week before you start a new pack. Estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) is not a pill that you can do continuously to avoid a period, unlike some pills where that is ok. Read more

I just started on the generic form of estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) fe?

Probably OK: Generic versions of medications are usually fine, but they are not identical. The fda allows for a modest degree of difference in "bioequivalence". Essentially, a generic medication is allowed to be sold if it is between 80% - 125% of the brand name medication. Most generic medications are fine for most people, but there is always some percentage of patients for whom they are different. Read more

Is it okay to take estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) fe with minocycline?

Is it okay to take estrostep (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) fe with minocycline?

BCP & antibiotic: I am not clear if you are taking the bcp for pregnancy prevention or acne tx. Antibiotics can reduce bcp effectiveness in some women. You might need to use condoms to further decrease chance of pregnancy and need additional/alternative form of bcp while using minocycline. Tell your dr. Everything you take including vitamins and herbs. Read more

On trivora 28 (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) for a month and some days forgot = unprotected sex.?

On trivora 28 (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone) for a month and some days forgot = unprotected sex.?

Yes: Oral contraceptives only work if you take them. You need to take them at about the same time every day (morning or evening) so that they trick your brain into thinking you already are pregnant, and do not ovulate. If you miss a pill, take it as soon as you realize, but if you miss more than two you should use some other form of birth control, such as condoms. Read more

Will GNC womens ultra nutrition active multivitamin interfere with my bc trivora 28 (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone)?

Multivitamins: I couldn't find exactly what you've written in gnc's products, to check on ingredients. The closest thing I saw was: GNC women's ultra mega® active. This one contains a few herbs (panax ginseng, gingko, green tea, etc) in addition to the vitamins, but nothing that should conflict with your birth control pills. Http://tinyurl. Com/6no53xd. Start a new pack of brevicon (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone). No period?

Start a new pack of brevicon (ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone). No period?

Check a PG test: Assuming that is negative, many pills do not build up enough tissue in the endometrium to cause a period and the way to show that is a pelvic ultrasound that I do in my patients to prove there are no problems. If that is normal you can either continue with the pills, as you do not have to have a period on the pills (many women like that) or switch to a higher dose pill to get periods. Read more
