What's your opinion on mandatory childhood vaccinations?

What's your opinion on mandatory childhood vaccinations?

Personal/public Hlth: Mandatory vaccinations prior to school entry were responsible for the largest interval decrease in preventable disease in the country.By 1992 we has reduced whooping cough to 2500 cases/yr and eliminated most polio.Sadly the anti-vaccine movement has led to in excess of 30 whooping cough deaths/yr (2010) and clusters of measles outbreaks.Sad when some forget how bad these diseases are. ...Read more

It looks like you: completed the series of 3 shots for Hepatitis A and B and a measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) which should not require boosters. Your polio (lpol) should be fine if you had previously received the usual childhood series. Menactra (meningitis) should be fine for a 38 year unless you have special circumstances. Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis and typhoid may need boosters. See Doc or Travel Clinic. Be safe ...Read more

What's your opinion on the HPV vaccination for children entering the seventh grade being mandatory?

What's your opinion on the HPV vaccination for children entering the seventh grade being mandatory?

Not mandatory: I am not a fan of making this shot a mandatory vaccine, and favor keeping it as a strongly recommended vaccine for all children. This is mainly because its a virus spread through a voluntary action (sexual contact) that affects mainly teens and adults through a consented behavior and not passed to innocent and brief contacts. ...Read more

OPV is fine: The OPV was the standard polio vaccine in the US from about 1960 to 1990's and only replaced by the IPV due to the rare Polio cases associated with OPV. (immune compromised patients). It remains a standard for most of the world and promotes immunity to the same strains included in the shot. ...Read more

Is it safe to take BCG, Polio, Measles, Rubella, Meningitis (Quadrivalent) and Hepatitis B vaccines together on the same day?

Is it safe to take BCG, Polio, Measles, Rubella, Meningitis (Quadrivalent) and Hepatitis B vaccines together on the same day?

Contraversial: Not clear as to why some children and even adults get a variety of reactions following vaccines. Obviously, there is an increased incidence of autoimmune problems worldwide, but this may or may not reflect increased vaccine use. No evidence that taking all together vrs separately will make any substantial ultimate difference, but personally, I am NOT clear regarding ultimate safety. ...Read more
