Many causes!: Erythema nodosum may occur as an isolated condition or in association with other conditions. Conditions that are associated with erythema nodosum include medications (sulfa-related drugs, birth control pills, and estrogens), strep throat cat scratch disease, fungal diseases, infectious mononucleosis, sarcoidosis, behcet's disease, inflammatory bowel diseases (crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis). ...Read more

Prednisone: This is a tough problem. The only thing that is going to really help with erythema nodosum is prednisone. I suspect you have been on Prednisone on and off for years and were hoping the ostomy would decrease the need for it. See a dermatologist who can collaborate with your GI doc. You are still having inflammation and I assume you are on other systemic medications. ...Read more
