Erosive LP treatment: Topical and systemic treatment is required. Topical steroids or Calcineurin inhibitors 3-5/ times per week or more for long term. Systemic steroids or Methotrexate for a several weeks also are recommended. See orofacial pain practitioner for the proper management.

Is this lichen planus? I've recently noticed a series of fine white lines on the lower side of my left cheek. They don't hurt, and from the research I've done it sounds like it's not a big deal. However, I am worried that it might turn into erosive lichen

Oral: Oral lichen planus is an inflammatory condition that affects mucous membranes inside your mouth. It may appear as white, lacy patches; red, swollen tissues; or open sores on any soft tissues of the mouth. These lesions may cause burning, pain or other discomfort. The disorder occurs when the immune system mounts an attack against cells of the oral mucous membranes. The reason for this is unknown. It cannot be passed from one person to another. Oral lichen planus is usually a chronic condition that causes little or no symptoms. It usually is diagnosed at a dental exam and verified by an small biopsy. Treatments are usually undertaken only of the lesions are painful and/or ulcerative. Treatments that suppress the immune system abnormalities, such as topical or systemic steroids may improve more severe lesions and lessen pain. People with oral lichen planus may also have related lichen planus lesions on the skin, genitals or other parts of the body. Further information and treatment may be obtained by a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

I want to know what lichen planus is?

A good question: Lp is thought to be an immune system mediated response. To what is not yet known for sure. The end result being the typical itchy, purplish papules that are the classic clinical findings. There are also a number of different types of lp. So seeing a dermatologist would help you with the exact diagnosis.

What are the cures out there for lichen planus?

No cure: Lichen planus is an autoimmune disease and is not curable, nor is there a known cause. It falls into the category of desquamative gingivitis. Often, it is confined to the oral mucosa and is treated with topical or other steroids. Generally, it is manageable and not painful, although sometimes it can be uncomfortable.

What is vulvar lichen planus from?

What is vulvar lichen planus from?

Lichen planus: Nobody knows what the exact causes of lichen planus are. We know it can be triggered by taking certain medications, including thiazide diuretics, antimalarials and phenothiazines (a group of tranquilizing drugs with antipsychotic actions). A significant number of skin specialist doctors (dermatologists) believe it might be classified as an autoimmune disease. A higher-than-normal percentage, hepc+.

Solution for lichen planus on the skin?

Solution for lichen planus on the skin?

Scientific Rx: Lichen planus may go away on its own, but treatment is only palliative. You may be offered topical treatment, in particular glucocorticoids; tacrolimus, Dapsone and retinoids may be used by a specialist dermatologist. I'm going to assume you are otherwise healthy; it might be wise to test you for hepatitis c in the blood and treat this if present.
