Why is nac (n-acetylcystein) administered to antidote tylenol (acetaminophen) toxicity instead of using gluathione exogenous supplement directly?

Standard protocol ;: Good question. Nac is well-proven to work ; is the standard protocol. Glutathione might work as well or better but i'm unaware of any studies showing it works. Also, standard glutathione is poorly absorbed orally. It might work well given IV but has a short shelf-life ; is not generally available in er's. Hard to say: You are on two medications (Plaquinil and Gabapentin) which can be associated with side effects and thus the question whether is safe or not depends on the perspective related to risk/benefit ratio.
