Er Urgent Care
I had a fall in the driveway last night. Pain just below both breasts. Worse with movement, palpation, or cough. ER, Urgent Care, or wait?
Urgent care is delivered in an ambulatory setting. Not a primary care setting - patients are referred back ...Read more
Had miscarriage at 6w3d. On 4/2/13. Have a neg. Blood. Er/urgent care docs did not give rhogam shot. Is it needed? Not sure of hubby's Rh factor.
You need it soon: 85% of people have rh+ blood, so playing the laws of averages, there is a very strong likelihood that the father was rh+. There is always the chance that the baby would have been rh- and Rhogam wouldn't be necessary, but why take the chance. It's to prevent a problem with future pregnancies. ...Read more

Yes,: Yes, you should go to the er if you have failed your second antibiotic, which sounds like you have. Hopefully there were cultures taken of your urine so that they can find out which antibiotic works for you. Urinary tract infections can worsen and can cause kidney infection (pyelonephritis), with symptoms of increased pain, vomiting, or fever. ...Read more

Not necessary: Hi. You can just see your doctor. Generally a good primary care doc will do a better job than an ER in starting treatment for diabetes. The only caveat would be if you also have an infection or something else serious going on. If you have the option, best idea would be to see an endocrinologist. From here on out, change your life. Eat healthily and exercise regularly. Of course, DON'T SMOKE! ...Read more
Glass stuck on side of knee for 3 days. ER or urgent care (pretty good in mY area). How much will hurt? Never had anything done or break anything
Depends: Hi Camilla, it depends on the urgent cares capacity to do such procedures and what the knee looks like. 3 days is a long time to have a foreign body in your knee. There are chances that an infection can occur. I would get it checked out. Regarding pain, they should be able to numb the area. Every doctor has his/he own style of treating the pain. ...Read more

Was not sleeping well and experiencing dizziness muscle cramps and some confusion went to ER vs urgent care gave me lorazapam w/o discussing need why?
Lorazepam: Lorazepam can be given for acute anxiety, panic attacks, etc. Your symptom picture is consistent with this, and I'm guessing your er doctor who examined you & ran any tests may have thought this too. When they discharge you from the er, they usually instruct you to follow up with your family doctor or psychiatrist if you have one. Further eval and treatment are possible for you w/your own doctors. ...Read more

I think I have scabbies. I itch all over and can't sleep. Should I go to ER or wait till urgent care opens in 7 hrs?
Not ER: Er's should be for life threatening illness or severe pain. Even if you went there tonight, it would likely take hours to be seen, you would have to find an all night pharmacy if you need a prescription, and then do the treatment which consists of leaving on medicine for 8-12 hours. So you are not going to get relief tonight from them. Take some Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for the itch tonight and urgent care in am. ...Read more

Went to ER 4 mos ago for pounding heart. Did EKG and release papers say hyper urgency. If they seen any others issues, would they have addressed it?
See your doc: Heart pounding may be nothing, but sometimes it is important. If your heart wasn't pounding when the EKG was done, it won't tell us what's causing your heart to pound. We typically recommend a long-term monitor called an event recorder. Assuming your pounding happens while you are wearing the monitor, you physician can tell you if a rhythm problem is causing it. ...Read more
