It depends.: Aerobic activity and light weights should be no problem prior to hernia repair, assuming that the exercise does not cause pain related to the hernia. I suggest to my patients that they try and determine what exercises cause the most stress to this area prior to surgery; those are the ones i want them to avoid for 2-3 weeks after surgery. Maybe: Depends on how long it has been there, how much it bothers you, how long you will be gone, and whether or not you will be in a location with access to health care. If it been there a long time, and doesn't bother you, then it is probably very low risk to cause a problem. Less time, more symptoms, higher probability of a problem.
