Epiduo-Acutane: Be patient and be sure to cleanse your face with a mild cleanser and moisturize at least twice daily. Please allow the Accutane time to work and help treat your acne. Why am I still breaking out after I have been on acutane for six months? I am currently using epiduo but is there anything else I can do to help?
It takes time: I know how you feel, you were told Accutane is the miracle drug that makes acne vanish but a look in the mirror makes it unconvincing. The truth is it takes some time. Depending on the dosage you are taking (20mg/40mg, etc) the amount of time will vary. I personally took 20mg once daily and broke out for about 5 and a half months after starting. 7 months in I would have no more than 2 pimples/month. ...Read more

Hard to tell: Epiduo is a combination of Adapalene (the drug in differin (adapalene)) and benzoyl peroxide (a common over-the-counter acne drug). Retrieve is tretinoin (the drug in retin-a), so it would be similar to differin (adapalene). So, epiduo may have an advantage in that it includes benzoyl peroxide, which has some bacterial-killing ability. One can try one drug on the left face, and the other on the right face, to compare. ...Read more

Effort, doses, price: Epiduo is ready to use but copay can be high, using adapalene and benzoyl peroxide separately will require some effort, not sure if you can achieve the same recipe or make it worth the effort, talk to your doc about other options, I am available for second opinion if needed ...Read more
Hello I'm in tears right now after reading horror stories of ppl on acutane. Nothing has worked for me I'm on it now 10mg/pday. Should I be worried?
It happens but. ...: It is also a good med & considered safe & effective when used as directed/monitored. Your doc will likely monitor your response to the drug with some blood tests to see if there are any indications your system will not tolerate the drug. It could then be stopped before any problem arises. If your system is like most, it will not be a problem & you may get the benefit you want. ...Read more

Mostly birth defects: The birth defect risk is quite real; you cannot get pregnant while taking it. But with all respect to previous answerer, other dangers have been overblown, and no cause-effect has ever been proven for many of them. That doesn't mean they never happen, but in 30+ years of prescribing it I have never seen any of them. I agree it should only be prescribed by a dermatologist well trained in its use. ...Read more
