How long can the symptoms of epididymitis last?

How long can the symptoms of epididymitis last?

Can last a long time: Epididymitis is an infection of the epididymis. Treatment with antibiotics usually relieves the symptoms within 3-4 weeks. Hot baths and anti-inflammatories can help. Persistant pain or pain without swelling of the epididymis may be a sign of a different problem such as prostatitis and should be checked by a urologist.

I'm diagnosed with epididymitis 3 weeks ago. Used antibiotics and antiinflammatory drugs. Symptoms subsided but still have discomfort. Can it be chronic?

Scrotal pain: Most cases of pain in the testicle or epididymis will resolve on their own. I would see your primary care doctor to make sure you don't have a persistent infection first. A scrotal ultrasound may also be helpful. I would advise that if your symptoms persist longer than three months, you should probably see an urologist.

Diagnosed with epididymitis, prescribed ciprofloxacin, symptoms seem to clear up within days, but urine sample had no abnormalities. What now?

Continue Ciproflox: Men can have epididymitis and a normal urine sample at the same time. Finishing your full course of ciprofloxacin as prescribed by your doc is important. Also seing your doctor in follow up is important. If not already, you could discuss with your doctor if there is any apparent cause for the epididymitis. Sometimes a semen culture is beneficial in shedding more light regarding cause.

I had chlamydia and then got epididymitis, chlamydia has been 100% treated, but I still have slight symptoms for epi, how long until they disappear?

A few weeks: It can take a few weeks for pain from epididymitis to subside completely. As long as the pain is less and swelling is going down, it's getting better. If you remain uncertain, contact the doctor or clinic where you were treated.

29yrs. Was recently diagnosed with epididymitis. I was prescribed doxycycline twice a day for ten days. Symptoms start returning after I run out.

Longer Treatment: Doxycycline would not be my first choice for your condition. But, I do know that most people with this condition need three to six weeks of treatment.

I'm given a semen culture for chronic prostatis, epididymitis. But I have been taking levaquin & keflex, which control some of the symptoms. What can I do?

Be patient: This is very though. Make sure the lab knows that you are taking antibiotics, the culture will be treated differently and hopefully it will grow something with a good response to a different antibiotic that you could benefit from

Sometimes have mild pain in right testicle after ejaculation. I have no other symptoms and am not sexually active so could it still be epididymitis?

Yes: Development of epididymitis varies in causes. In children it is most commonly associated with urinary tract infections. In young, sexually active men, it is often linked to STDs. And in older men it is often caused by enlargement of the prostate gland. It can also occur with trauma and sometimes there is no obvious explanation.

Coukd epididymitis be caused by HIV. Would I feel the symptoms 5 days after unprotected oral sex? I tested negative for all the minor STD'S

HIV is not this: No. Absolutely not. HIV is a virus and is spread throughout the body by blood. It does not cause any specific infection such as epidydimitis. Your question is so far out of left field I am having a hard time figuring out what you are really asking. Do you have HIV?

What is the best medicine to treat epididymitis caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia? What are the symptoms? Do you have pain in joints?

What is the best medicine to treat epididymitis caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia? What are the symptoms? Do you have pain in joints?

Assume both: The cdc guidelines for treatment of genital gonorrhea have changed. They now recommend Ceftriaxone in a single 2gm IV dose along with with Azithromycin 2gm orally or Doxycycline 100mg twice a day x 7 days. This will effectively treat chlamydial infection and you must generally assume that if you have one you probably have both. If confined to genital disease you should not be having joint pain.

What to do if I have epididymitis: help?

Confirm Dx first...: A good history and physical exam with or without urinalysis can reach a reasonable accurate diagnosis of epididymitis. Then, antibiotics can be used hopefully to shorten the course of this illness. For the time being, collect and record the feature and degree of all symptoms with their detailed sequence of events, and then bring those to see, talk, and work with urologist. Best wish. .. Always.
