Can p.O.P, or enterocele cause rectal pain to be worse and more constant during menstrual cycle? If pertinent, in add. Uterus is also retroverted.

Maybe.: Usually, pop and enteroceles are painless, but if you have a rectocele and tend towards constipation or harder stools at that time of the month, then there may be more pressure in your pelvis/rectum causing pain. The retroverted uterus is also pushing on the rectum and is lower in your pelvis (pop) which may make stool transit more difficult. What does you doctor think? Have you tried a pessary? ...Read more

How can you prevent someone from fainting?

Get their attention!: Speak directly, loud and clear, placing yourself in front of them, demand that they look into your eyes! Have them breathe slow and deep while looking at you. You may have to demonstrate this for them; it may help to have a hand or two on their shoulders. The object is to get them grounded in the present moment. One way is to have them mimic exactly what you are doing. Try to keep their eyes open! ...Read more

If the enterocele is removed, can it grow back? Worse case scenario if I don't opt to have the enterocele removed? Possible complication of surgery

Great Q for Urogyn: Thanks for bringing up three very good questions. Our obgyn colleagues and subspecialists in urogynecology can answer this best. They see the natural course or progression of enteroceles when patients perhaps wait too long for repair. In addition, they can list the risks of a repair. Pardon the graphic image, but it does show the proximity of the pelvic structures to the vagina. ...Read more

Are there good alternative therapies for enterocele?

Are there good alternative therapies for enterocele?

None that r good: Enteroceles may not cause symptoms (incidental finding); therefore, they may not require rx at all. No evidence that, say, yoga, pilates, tai chi, rolfing, herbs, homeopathy work for symptomatic enteroceles. Kegel exercises/biofeedback unlikely to help symptomatic enteroceles (but may be worth a try) surgical management may help. ...Read more
