The lymph nodes i suppose are not he neck and most likely are reactive lymph nodes. 90% of URI are viral, but if he is having fever or chills, it is best to have him see his pediatrician for proper diagnosis. Get checked.: The most awful looking throats I see can be strep or mono. In strep, a person usually has a fairly high temperature and headache. In mono, you see fatigue as the major symptom.
