Dr. Tony Ho Dr. Ho
1 doctor agreed:

Shouldn't: Cirrhosis causes splenomegaly through portal hypertension and splenic congestion; a mildly fatty liver should be well before this stage, and should not be the cause of a painful enlarged spleen. You should see a doctor for further evaluation and testing. ...Read more

Would 2 nights of heavy drinking cause an enlarged spleen? If the liver is perfectly healthy? If so would it go back to normal not drinking alcohol?

Would 2 nights of heavy drinking cause an enlarged spleen? If the liver is perfectly healthy? If so would it go back to normal not drinking alcohol?

No: And am not sure how you know your spleen is enlarged. If you had some kind of scan or ultrasound, you need to be asking the doctor who ordered that test. The spleen does not enlarge in alcohol-related disease until the liver is very very sick (cirrhosis). Many things can cause splenic enlargement, and only your physician can figure it out with full history, examination and appropriate tests. ...Read more
