A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more
Unlikely: Usually cysts are embedded inside the wall of the ovary. As such, there may be something else that you are feeling- and not your ovary and cysts.- unless the cysts are very large. If bothersome, have your gyn evaluate. Good luck. ...Read more

Probably not: All women of reproductive age typically develop 3-5 small cysts on each over every month. One usually becomes a dominant cyst (egg or follicle) from which ovulation occurs. Oral contraceptives can reduce cyst number and size. Ask your gyn if there is a concern over pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) before considering anything. ...Read more
Hi, I got a sonogram today and my gyno said I have enlarged ovaries but no cyst. She didn't give much of an explanation. Should I be concerned? I'm 17
Seek clarification: Contact the doctor who did your sonogram and ask for clarification. Since no treatment plan was made I suspect everything was normal but the only one who can confirm that is the doctor who did the test. It is perfectly acceptable to contact them and ask for a better understanding of your results. ...Read more

See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your TSH is near the high range suggesting thyroid deficiency, despite high pulse rate. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. ...Read more

Hello, I was diagnosed with bilateral enlarged ovaries with a complex cyst 3.3 X 1.7 cm. Cyst cleared after a month. Does this mean I can have PCOS?
Maybe (not): Having a large 3.3cm cyst doesn't mean you do (or do not) have PCOS. Women sometimes form these cysts but they usually go away on their own. The diagnosis of PCOS isn't based on ultrasound alone. It involves many other factors such as are you ovulating? Do you have excess facial hair; Is the skin on the back of your neck dark; are you over weight, etc. Your gyn can help you! Best wishes! ...Read more
Hi I am having small cysts in my ovaries I had a scan and report says that the ovaries are enlarged and have cysts. Will this affect me to conceive?
Maybe: It depends what type of cysts they are. It also depends on if the cysts are elevating your hormones and thus affecting your hormone cycle or egg production. If the cysts are truly small (<1 cm) then there is nothing to worry about. You may have pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) but not everyone whose has that cystic appearance on ultrasound actually has pcos. So a full evaluation is helpful! ...Read more

Had ultra sound 3 times on my ovary. Left always very enlarged, but no cysts. It's causing discomfort, as I can feel it. What could this be?
I have found out I have a 7.3 cm cyst in my left ovary and it grew in under a month. I'm only 18 and I'm having surgery soon. What should I expect?
Cyst aspir./removal: The ovarian cyst will be aspirated or removed hopefully, via an outpatient procedure such as laparoscopy. It will mean a short stay in an ambulatory outpatient center and a rapid recovery at home for 1 to 3 days depending on how much is done. Don't forget to return to the GYN MD post procedure for your post-op examination to be sure everything is OK. ...Read more
My right ovary is enlarged measuring 82.9mls and contains 5.1✖️3.4✖️4.7cm complex cyst with multiple internal sepatation. No definite solid componen?
Ovarian cysts: In your age group, most likely it's a blood ; clot filled cyst that will go away by itself. The management depends on whether you're having symptoms. Cysts of that size can cause the ovary to twist causing severe pain ; a surgical emergency. Otherwise, we'd usually repeat the u/s in ~1-4 months. If it's still there, we'd likely want to remove it. Risk of cancer is very low but not zero. ...Read more
My right ovary is enlarged measuring 82.9mls and contains 5.1✖️3.4✖️4.7cm complex cyst with multiple internal sepatation. No definite solid component?
Advice: At 22 this is unlikely to be ovarian cancer though doctor likely took a full history and addressed any risk factors you may have. At that size can be watched with serial ultrasounds. Or if causing pain/interfering with quality of life, taken out laparoscopically. Most common cyst with this description is endometrioma. ...Read more
My right ovary is enlarged with 26.8 cc's of fluid in it along with a 2.3 CM mildly complex cyst. Is this concerning for ovarian ca?
No: At your age the risk for malignancy is very low. Given you don't have a strong family history of early breast or ovarian cancer. It's common for young women to have ovarian masses that have some complexity to them (a marker for cancer). These are almost always a dermoid, hemorrhagic cyst, endometrioma or another benign ovarian mass. Follow your doc's instructions, but try not to worry. ...Read more
I just got my radiology report and it says enlarged right ovary 1.2cm complex septated cyst. What does that mean and how do you treat it?
Not that complex!:
A cyst at a size of 1.2cm is not that big and probably represents a normal finding. The description of a septation (or a wall in a cyst) is a 'complex' finding, but is probably of low concern. You need a followup scan in about 6 weeks.
