Not sure of question: It sounds like your doctor found a "mass" in your neck above your collar bone and recommended an MRI. This confirmed the presence of lymph nodes in the same area, some of which were slightly large, at the upper ("top normal") limit of normal. These could be reactive... responding to some inflammation/infection nearby or neoplastic (tumor). Depending on other symptoms, observation or biopsy is next

If enlarged lymph nodes in neck are because of cancer somewhere else would it have to be in an area close to the neck?

If enlarged lymph nodes in neck are because of cancer somewhere else would it have to be in an area close to the neck?

Yes and no...: Neck lymph nodes may become enlarged with tumors of the head and neck, such as squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. (Smokers are prone to this problem.) This is because the lymphatic channels in the neck will filter through neck nodes before draining into a larger vessel in the chest. In contrast, lymphoma is a tumor of lymph nodes themselves, and can enlargement of any node.

Can hsv1 cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck and collarbone?

Can hsv1 cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck and collarbone?

Yes: Hsv1, the virus that causes cold sores, can definitely make these lymph nodes enlarged. If you have an active sore on your mouth, and your neck and collarbone lymph nodes are enlarged and sore, they should improve as the sore improves. If you don't have a sore, they don't improve, or you have painless, enlarged lymph nodes, you should be examined by a doctor. Don't wait too long!

Can HSV cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck and collor bone?

Can HSV cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck and collor bone?

Depends: My answer is yes, it can - but off course it will depend on where is the location of the hsv infection. There are many other things that can cause lymph nodes enlargement. See you doctor for further evaluation.

I've had enlarged lymph nodes in neck, throat, underarms, and groin since the first of the year, yet my internist is unconcerned. Should I be? I am.

Second opinion: Not sure without the benefit of examining you. Enlarged lymph nodes throughout the body coil indicate a problem. If you are concerned I would encourage you to obtain a second opinion.

Can muscle tension/anxiety cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck? Or submandible lymph region?

Can muscle tension/anxiety cause enlarged lymph nodes in neck? Or submandible lymph region?

No: However, if you tend to be over-anxious and you're a young adult, you'll start noticing the lymph nodes that everybody has in their necks. A dangerous node is obviously very abnormal clinically. You need to learn to ignore the ones that aren't fixed to surrounding structures, stony-hard / tire-rubber hard, and not deforming. Please talk with your physician about overcoming these kinds of fear

Mono-like: Sounds like a mononucleosis-like syndrome, which can have many causes, from epstein-barr virus. Cmv, toxoplasmosis, HIV and so on and so on. Go see a pcp and be thoroughly evaluated. This cannot be diagnosed over the internet.

Does a chest x Ray reveal enlarged lymph nodes in neck area such as under the thymus gland caused by lymphoma?

Does a chest x Ray reveal enlarged lymph nodes in neck area such as under the thymus gland caused by lymphoma?

The thymus gland: Is not in the neck, it is in the chest (anterior mediastinum). If the lymph nodes get large enough, the chest xray will be abnormal. However, a chest xray is not a reliable way to rule out adenopathy, because the lymph nodes have to get quite bulky to show up. CT is a much more sensitive and specific test for mediastinal adenopathy.

Second opinion: Get a second opinion and see a head/neck surgeon for a lymph node biopsy. Make sure to have comprehensive blood testing performed.

I have a thyroid cyst, 10 enlarged lymph nodes in neck & 8 in groin, lung scarring, high k, low na, lower wbc, hypotension & a long list of symptoms?

Internist: You're not going to get a diagnosis in an on-line forum. You obviously have a complicated problem that will require a comprehensive evaluation. If your local doctor can't help, seek help at an academic center with a general internist. You're only 113 miles from des moines. Ps, hi k and low na with low BP suggests addison's disease.

I have enlarged lymph nodes between pancreas and liver. I had enlarge lymph nodes in neck. Neg for Hodgkin a year ago. Should I be worried?

I have enlarged lymph nodes between pancreas and liver. I had enlarge lymph nodes in neck. Neg for Hodgkin a year ago. Should I be worried?

Not really: Enlarged lymph nodes of concern are either inflammatory or malignant. If nodes in neck which are a common site for lymphoma were neg. For Hodgkins, then the chance of other sites are minimal for lymphoma. Nodes between pancreas and liver are usually those draining the liver from inflammatory or malignant lesions of the liver. If scan of liveri neg for malignancy then nodes would be inflammatory

Very swollen glands and lymph nodes in neck, when should I visit the doctor?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well.

Let us wait: We have to wait for biopsy results. You have not described any other symptoms. It is hard to guess at this stage.

To whom this may concern, my son has enlarged lymph nodes on one side of the neck and a significant amount of puss on 1 tonsil no throat pain.

To whom this may concern, my son has enlarged lymph nodes on one side of the neck and a significant amount of puss on 1 tonsil no throat pain.

Exudate: And lymph node enlargement is suggestive of an infectious process, likely viral. A throat culture could help you sort this out. Access is also a remote possibility, and would require immediate evaluation!
