Lymph nodes: The lymph nodes usually enlarge as response to an infection in the vicinity.It lasts maximum 2-3 weeks and as the infection goes away (with antibiotics usually) the lymph nodes disappear. Outside this scenario, i would be worried and demand further investigation (ct is appropriate, a blood smear and CBC with differential, as well as a bmp with enzymes markers analysis) up to an excision biopy. ...Read more

Probably benign node: When a mass is palpated in the neck it is usually abnormal and suggests a new, possibly metastatic lesion requiring bx and then therapy. If a hypoechoic mass is noted this is a solid lesion and with above description is a lymph node that is characterized by the fatty hilum. If lesion enlarges bx needed unless a primary lesion defined that may be causing nodal enlargement. Therapy then needed ...Read more

Lymph nodes: Small less than 1 cm freely movable not matted to surrounding tissue. Not source of great concern. But should be monitored. If change enlargement of other symptoms fever night sweats fatigue further evaluation indicated. ...Read more

Cervical Lymph Nodes: Enlargement of the lymph nodes in the anterior chain of the neck can be a sign of active infection or occult disease. Non tender but enlarged lump nodes in the neck may be reacting to infections drainage from the head and neck including mononucleosis, &HIV disease. Lymphomas may present with non tender lymph node enlargement. Consider a head and neck exam and maybe antibiotics and needle biopsy. ...Read more

Infection, shingles?: This sounds like a skin infection of some sort. It could be a bacterial infection (e.g. staph, strep, etc) but I'm more suspicious of herpes zoster (shingles). See a doctor ASAP. If bacterial, you'll need an antibiotic. If shingles, an antiviral drug (e.g. valacyclovir) needs to be started very soon to have maximum benefit. ...Read more

You're probably fine: Most young adults have several palpable lymph nodes. They're your friends. If they're not massively enlarged, fixed to normal structures, growing rapidly, or rock-hard and you feel okay, you owe it to yourself to stop worrying and get on with your life. ...Read more
