Enlarged Lymph Node On Left Side Of Neck
Ultrasound says hypoechoic mass with essentric fatty hilum favoring an enlarged lymph node on left side of neck. What does that mean?
Probably benign node: When a mass is palpated in the neck it is usually abnormal and suggests a new, possibly metastatic lesion requiring bx and then therapy. If lesion enlarges bx needed unless a primary lesion defined that may be causing nodal enlargement. Therapy then needed ...Read more
Enlarged hard lymph node 1.8cm on left side of neck. Saw ent, did ultrasound and he isn't worried. No further tests. Should I get second opinion?
Wouldn't Hurt: I would. I mean, ultrasound is good, but there's stuff that the ultrasound can't distinguish. I'm sure the ENT doctor concluded 'no problem' based on his physical exam and other tests, so don't freak out. Maybe he wants to wait and see you back in a few weeks to see if it changes, so don't freak. Just don't keep touching it every day, you'll irritate it and it may enlarge it and make it tender ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and left side of face for 5 years. Left side of neck and face is swollen. Dr says don't worry. What do I do?
Follow-up: Chronically swollen lymph nodes in the head and neck area are generally not due to a malignancy such as lymphoma or head and neck cancer. Chronic infection in the head and neck area could be a cause and there may be some lymphatic blockage causing the swelling. It would not be unreasonable to scan the area and possibly biopsy an accessible node. ...Read more

Infection, shingles?: This sounds like a skin infection of some sort. It could be a bacterial infection (e.g. staph, strep, etc) but I'm more suspicious of herpes zoster (shingles). See a doctor ASAP. If bacterial, you'll need an antibiotic. If shingles, an antiviral drug (e.g. valacyclovir) needs to be started very soon to have maximum benefit. ...Read more
