Tongue mass: I assume you mean underneath the tongue, which is where the salivary glands drain on each side. Occasionally they might swell, but a small papillary swelling is normal. Is it symmetrical, without redness? On a 3 yr. old child perhaps related to some new food exposure. ...Read more

Probably not: enlarged. The papillae at the back or base of the tongue are known as the circumvallate papillae and tend to be relatively large compared to the other papillae. Most people don't see them because you have to stick your tongue out fairly far to see them. Unless you are having pain, a sore throat, ulceration or other symptoms, I wouldn't worry about them. ...Read more
