Enlarged Adenoid 3 Year Old
Adenoids are lymphatic tissue found in the airway behind the nose in the back of the throat. Adenoids are made up of the same type of tissue as the tonsils. Both help fight infections. However, unlike the tonsils, they cannot be seen by looking in the throat. Adenoids are found in children and begin to regress before puberty. In children, enlarged adenoids can cause obstruction of the nasal airway leading to difficulty breathing, breathing through the mouth, nasally voice, ...Read more

3 year old moans/groans and chews in sleep. Just had 2nd set of tubes in and his adenoids out. Hoped symptoms would clear but haven't. Sleep disorder?
3 year old -mouth breather, snores, constant runny nose, never complained of ear pain, has glue ear. should I go ahead with removal of adenoids?
Hard to say: The limited info is not enough to comment. If the ear fluid has been a constant battle (6-9m) and problems with speech& language are evident, tubes would be an initial approach. The mouth breathing is both a tonsils & adenoids problem. The best incite would be known by the docs that know all the features of the case. ...Read more
What are some reasons my 3 year old keeps getting ear infections... I had my tonsils and adenoids removed as a child from sleep apnea?
Common: In his age group. Many younger children are prone to ear infections. They suffer many colds as they play with other children and the congestion can spread behind their ear drums and lead to infections. also, as in your case enlarged tonsils and adenoids can be a source for ear infections. Environment: A little color will occur to any mucous that stays long enough in a germ rich area like the nose. My son is 3yr old and has adenoid, please when will his body start developing immune system of its own?
All have adenoids: Adenoids are lymphoid tissue in the nose, like the tonsils in the mouth. They are nick-named nasal tonsils. They are normal part of the immune system. When they are inflamed and swollen, they can cause problems such as snoring, sinusitis and er infections. Allergic children are particularly prone to these complications. ...Read more
A 3yr old baby coughing with blocked nose at night for 5days now. At times very intense. Plenty mucus. Mild temp. And he has adenoids. Advice plz.
Even after tonsils/adenoids removed 3 mos ago, our 3 yr old goes from one cold/infection to another. Should I worry about her immune system?
Yes: Many children bounce back incredibly after t&a. A child who does not gives me cause wondering what else is going on. She may be eating something that affects her. Her immune system is a bit down but that does not mean she has an immune "problem". I would loo at diet, get her off milk and wheat and consider seeing a homeopathic doctor and/or a chinese medicine/acupuncturist. I have great results! ...Read more
My 3 yr old has MULTIPLE swollen lymph nodes in neck & adenoids for 6 months Bloodwork fine. What are the odds of her having cancer?
Lymph nodes swollen: Greetings. The likelihood that your 3 year old has any form of cancer is very small. Young children have a very reactive immune system and adenoid swelling like I think you are describing often links with tonsil and lymph node activation then reactive swelling. Have your child see the Pediatrician for confirmation but rest assured this sounds more normal than cancerous. ...Read more

My 3 yo may have enlarged adenoids. Dr wants to do x-ray. He's had 7 chest x-rays and one brain CT scan. I'm afraid of all the radiation. Advice?
Probably ok: You always have to weigh benefit versus damage with ionizing radiation. The amount of radiation that the child received so far is acceptable. The worst amount of radiation is from repeat ct exams especially of chest and abdomen. Adenoid exam should involve a single lateral projection of the neck. If snoring, mouth breathing, or sleep apnea probably problem with enlarged adenoids and tonsils. ...Read more

I'm a 15.3 year old girl and I'm a little under 5'7 I grew about an inch and a half over this summer do you think I will grow anymore? My goal is 5'8.
Absolutely: You have a great chance of growing more. You are in the years of peak growth velocity right now, but if you grew 1/5 inches over summer only, you have a great probability of reaching your goal. Ask your pediatrician for more information about what your projected height is. Good luck. ...Read more
My 3 year old son been having big lumps to come in his head and turn into sores and when I press down on them he said it hurts. He have three. Please?
My 3 year old has a swollen lymph nodule in neck. Both sides are swolllen, but 1 is 2cm. Dr placed on antibiodics, but it just grew. What is next step?
It is common for the: Lymph gland to continue to enlarge for the first day or so on medications. You are playing a catch up game with the germ invading the gland. Often a heating pad at low heat can help more abx containing blood to flow thru the gland. Sometimes the abx will not work & the gland will need to be drained. I haven't seen that happen with a neck gland so far. Have it rechecked with your dr. ...Read more
My 3 year old daughter has had a cough for three days that gets worse at night and seems to get a fever only at night. When should she see a doc?
My 3 year old son have a high fever for three days and just started vomiting today. His sister has a fever as well. What could this be? What should I do
Probably viral but..: It is impossible to know for certain from these symptoms, but the most likely cause is a viral infection, possibly roseola, which is common in 3 yo's & has high fever with few other symptoms (though vomiting can be one of them). Classically the fever goes away after 3-5 days & then a rash appears, so it may be hard to know if he has this for a couple more days. Please see "comment" below for more. ...Read more
I got three dissolvable stitches in my upper lip two days ago. My 3 year old son just head butted me and one the stitches is loose. What do I do?
Head butt: Ok, take a look at the wound. Are the edges of skin touching each other? Is there a space large enough to slip a dime into? One loose stitch is no problem as long as the wound looks ok and you're not seeing a gap in the skin. If there is any question, we are happy to look at it in a Prime visit with photos! For the past three days My 3 year old has sporadic episodes of pain in his hands and feet. They get red slightly swollen and warm when you touch It?
Swollen hands and fe: There are many reasons to have swollen hands and feet. My concern if there is also joint pain and swelling around the joints. You need to check with his pediatrician who might refer your son to a pediatric rheumatologist. At the same time we need to check his urine for protein just to make sure we are not dealing with a nephrology problem related to kidney issues as well. ...Read more
My 3 year old little girl has enlarged lymph node in her neck, it's been like this for about 6 weeks or more, she also has frequent visit 2 poo?
3.5 year olds adenoids to be removed. Should we get second opinion? I believe they enlarged after strep throat at christmas. Can they shrink naturally
Maybe, maybe not: Removal should be based on the overall picture of the child's health. If snoring at night and showing other signs of potential sleep apnea, it would tend to worsen for several years before some relative decrease in size would be expected (after age 8-10). If truly symptomatic of sleep disturbance, this can improve the quality of life and avoid worsening issues. If not, no hurry. ...Read more
Is there any alternatives to surgery for enlarged tonsils and adenoids for my 3 year old who also might have sleep apnea because of this?
You could wait..but: Tonsils & adenoids tend to grow faster than the kids until 6-8 when growth stalls. Kids continue to grow so most of the restriction to the airway begins to fade by 10-16. Any kid who snores or has sleep apnea at 3, is expected to get worse. Intervention when the kid is relatively healthy is a lot better than to deal with an acute problem. There are no herbs/diet/etc. Either you operate or you don't ...Read more
Severe sleep apnea from brain forgetting to send signal to breath and enlarged tonsil and adenoid/over weight/ 1 year old any suggestions or options?
Fix what U can: In a 1yo enlarged tonsils & adenoids can produce significant sleep apnea & removal may solve that component of the issue. Respiratory stimulants like caffeine are commonly used in neonatal sleep apnea but may or may not be helpful at one year. Fix what you can & work with your treatment team on alternatives. The people who know the case have a better chance to sort it out. ...Read more
My 3 yo is a loud breather. Usually through mouth. He's not struggling. Has had echo, ekg, tubes, chest x-rays. Adenoids and tonsils removed. Ideas?
Airway anatomy: If your child is fine, sleeps well, no day fatigue, growing and developing fine, you need to back off. You've had checked all the major things. If he is symptomatic during day, then see a pediatric sleep specialist. If no daytime or long-term symptoms, then put a breath-right nasal strip on him at night and let him be loud. He will outgrow this in time. ...Read more
3 yo had 6 chest X-ray as baby for pneumonia, CT of brain for fall, 4 X-ray of neck, adenoids today b/c he kept moving. I'm so worried about radiation?
Discuss also with MD: He has had more than the usual amount of radiation for a 3-year old but these tests are usually quite safe and do not lead to long term complications. Chest and neck x rays have far less radiation than a brain ct. Using sunscreen and a hat during peak sun hours will decrease his exposure to uv rays. Eating well and including foods rich in antioxidants and vitamin c helps maintain a healthy defense. ...Read more

Various options: While surgery may be the needed option, if his adenoids enlarged due to allergies, medical treatment first may be helpful or curative.
