Enjoying 4 A Glasses A Wine Once A Week
I am a 37 y/o M, 6-2, 220#. Workout regularly since age 14. I Have a good diet. I also enjoy red wine. How many glasses a week should be my limit?
Rule of thumb:
For males, up to two 5 ounce glasses of wine daily is permissible provided ok with both physical and mental health. This is a guideline only. Abstinence is still a good thing, and moderation is the policy if you do drink. Guidelines: Beer: 12 fluid ounces (355 milliliters)
Wine: 5 fluid ounces (148 milliliters)
Distilled spirits (80 proof): 1.5 fluid ounces (44 milliliters) ...Read more
Could you tell me if someone drinks three or four glasses of wine a night, will they inevitably put on weight?
A problem?: First of all that sounds like a lot of wine for anyone, especially a woman. If your additional wine consumption calories are greater than your total caloric expenditure, then you will have surplus and gain weight. Alcohol doesn't add any nutritive benefit, so they are empty calories. Rule of thumb: to maintain weight, calories consumed have to equal calories expended. Excess is stored. ...Read more
I rarely drink, one to four glasses of wine per month. I get squeezing chest pain after a half glass. Allergy? Goes away after few hours.
Drank 4l of water in approx. 1, 5 hrs, plus two glasses of wine. Four hours later no headache, but light headed. Is water intoxication still an option?
No: Try to slow your intake down next time. You will urinate the excess water thanks to the wine. Avoid this also "when wine becomes your water". ...Read more
You decide: Don't abuse it, don't allow it to affect your behavior, and remember that the supposed health benefits (if they are real) aren't spectacular and shouldn't be a lifestyle consideration. Drink or not, as you wish. ...Read more
When taking 0.5mg Ativan (lorazepam) PRN (about once a week or less), how many days must one wait before having 1-2 glasses of wine (standard 5 oz glasses)?
Half-life = 12-16hrs: Half your dose may still be in your system after 16 hrs, etc. You can figure the days. If you really do stop at 2 normal wine servings, a day or two should be fine but you might want to have a reliable adult around to drive, etc if you feel less than sharp. Moderation sounds comfortable to you - that's good! ...Read more
I can not get my INR stable and I only drink about 4 glasses of wine a week so why is this happening I have other health problems type 2 diabeats?
Unstable INR: There are many foods and supplements that affect blood viscosity (thinness/thickness); some contain vitamin k which tends to thicken blood; others act like blood thinners. See following site for lists of both as well as info on how to take blood thinner most effectively: http://ods. Od.Nih. Gov/pubs/factsheets/coumadin1.Pdf. ...Read more
I had black smelly soft stool, the first part of my stool was regular brown, firm. Followed by semi liquid black tar like stool. The night before i'd drunk two glasses of (red) Malbec wine. Over there past few weeks my stools have been more light coloure
Possible melena?: If in setting of alcohol, NSAID/aspirin use, etc may be higher likelihood that the described stool was melena, often caused by significant bleeding in upper GI tract, most often from ulcer. This would clearly require MD attention - would need more info, of course. Seek MD esp if re flags e.g. weakness/dizziness, nausea/vomit, fever, weight loss. ...Read more
Took 325mg of Tylenol (acetaminophen) 48 hours ago. Safe to drink 1-2 glasses of wine today or is it too soon? No alcohol in the last 2 weeks.
A risk factor:
Alcohol intake is one of the risk factors for breast cancer. You have already one in your heredity. See this site for more information on this subject, however, no good can come from drinking alcohol. Even the so called benefits of moderate intake are in question.

Can mouth ulcers be from mono or EBV? Diagnosed 2 years ago&have never had an ulcer. I have 2 glasses of wine a week but have healthy diet otherwise
Mouth ulcers: These ulcers in the mouth can be caused by herpes Type I, and can be recurrent with other illness or just by itself. Wine can aggravate it due to its acidity, so best to avoid citrus, spicy and acidic foods when eating and drinking. You can get checked with labs for this and treated with Acyclovir (script) if indicated for each episode that occurs from your internist/GYN MD. It is unlikely Mono/EB ...Read more
My mom age 65 diagnosed w/ barrett's esophagus and prominent veins in esoph. Gi said due to liver and ordered ct. 2-3 glasses/wine a week. Thoughts?
More details: Barrett's esophagitis is a precancerous condition of the lower esophagus associated with gerd. Treatments vary depending on the severity and whether dysplasia exists. "prominent veins" suggest esophageal varices. These occur when the liver is damaged, usually by cirrhosis and there is back pressure. If she has liver disease, she needs to stop all alcohol. Depends: Depends on how big your glasses are, of course. Also, if alcohol addiction has been a problem in the past, I recommend no single drop of it. If you use alcohol for any health reasons such as to help you fall asleep or elevate your mood - stop right where you are. It will make you dependent and addicted. Also, anti-depressants and alcohol is a very dangerous combo. Deaths have been reported. ...Read more

I'm normally a heavy wine drinker but now I get nausea from the taste after 4 glasses and cant get a buzz either. Any possible reasons?
Alcohol: Heavy alcohol drinking of any type does not bode well regarding the imperceptible transition into true alcoholism. When that happens the quantity and frequency tend to take on a life of their own, regardless of annoying physical symptoms. Many people go on to serious physical and mental problems. I would take your body's hint and stop altogether. If you find that it is too difficult consider help ...Read more

Had 2 glasses of wine over 6 hours, then panicked & took 10mg Valium. How bad is this? Am I doing to die?
Not a good idea: It is not a good idea to mix alcohol and tranquilizers. As you know you did not die and hopefully you didn't drive. You should review all your meds with your doctor and get specific advise how to handle things if you are going to drink alcohol. Usually there will be some plan to lower amount of drinks or skip a tranquilizer if you are drinking. ...Read more
