Why would bowel preps not work? Poor prep with colyte (polyethylene glycol). Now on 2 day prep starting w/ mag. Citrate. No bm after 9 hours. Followed directions exactly!
Scheduled for colonoscopy but afraid magnesium citrate won't clear my colon. Docqulace and bisacodyl failed to evacuate colon. Will the citrate work?

A full bottle of citrate of magnesia will likely be far more effective than the other agents, especially if one stays physically active, fasts, take 2 days prior & chase with another bottle 1 day prior. Unfortunately yes : Don't drink it too fast-there is no rush.Some people spread it over an hour.Try drinking through a straw so you can't smell it.See if your doctor will let you mix it with apple juice or sprite. Finally, put a wet wash cloth on your neck and sit in a recliner with your feet up.I found that the prep for the colonoscopy was way worse than the procedure itself. Bless your heart! ...Read more

For what purpose?: If you're looking for powerful laxatives, i assume you feel very constipated or are looking to "cleanse." if the latter, please reconsider ; check out numerous healthtap answers that point to problems with colon cleansers--don't use them! if constipation however is new or has significantly worsened, or is accompanied by distension, vomiting, fever, pain then don't self-medicate but get checked. ...Read more

Impaction/Miralax.: Depended on the severity of your constipation. If you have constipation, trial of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) is likely to help. You can take 1 table spoon in 8 oz of water by mouth once to twice a day, depended on your response. If you do have fecal impaction, might need fleet enema to evacuate the hard portion at the distal end of your colon first, then take MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) afterward.
