Enema Or Glycerin Suppositories
Struggling with constipation after surgery (5-7without going)afraid of enemas (ckd-3)can glycerin suppositories been used daily instead without risks?
Glycerin vs enema: Depends on the situation. Gylcerin suppository is a lubricant that dissolves in your rectum for gentler passage of stool. A fleets enema is reserved for substantial constipation or impaction; it's a saline laxative drawing water into your colon and goes further up the colon and works around hard stools beyond the rectum. Generally, it's not uncommon to try glycerin first, then fleets.
Maybe: You can try a fleet mineral oil enema. As long as you don't have an infectious process in your belly and are sure you do not have a bowel obstruction from prior surgery or some other cause, go on liquids and take 1-2 tbsp of milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) every 12 hours and you can try 1-2 tablespooons of mineral oil every 12 hours, until you have had a bowel movement and feel emptied. If doesn't resolve with abo.
What is the best thing to do if no relief from glycerin suppository? Will enema shoot it up inside me?
Why do fleet enemas (sodium bisphosphate) put stress on the kidneys? Are glycerin suppositories safer for heart patients?
Colon damage: No, but if you haven't seen your doctor your constipation is being caused by your hypothyroid condition
Electrolytes: Any kind of chronic use of laxatives / enema can cause electrolyte imbalance. It's recommended you have regular lab work done.
Virtually none.: Wouldn't worry. I'm assuming you mean vagina rather than mouth, or your aim is really off!
Constipation: They are safe if you follow the instruction and use under your doctors guidance
From Above: A better overall strategy is to help constipation " from above" so to speak. Increased fluids, vegetables, salad, perhaps a daily spoonful of metamucil are all helpful. Add in a daily dose of Miralax (polyethylene glycol) or mineral oil and you should be able to have soft daily stools. Using glycerin suppository is safe, however, if the above strategies aren't helping.
What are the side effects should a glycerin suppository be accidentally inserted in the wrong hole?
None.: Glycerin is a lubricat to aid in defacation. I'm sure you are talking about the vagina. The mouth would be too far off the mark.
How much of the fleet pedia-lax liquid glycerin suppositories do I give to my baby (2 1/2 weeks) she hasn't had a bm in 4 days.?
Half: If it is thee glycerin suppository, give half (rounded end in first). Are you giving baby any water? Is belly bloated and hard? If no immediate relief with suppository, see a doctor.
